Munguia camp rejects Alimkhanuly bout

The WBO Championship Committee has ordered negotiations between the camps of Zhanibek Alimkhanuly and Danny Dignum for the WBO interim middleweight title.

On February 22, the WBO had issued a notice letter ordering Team Jaime Munguia and Team Zhanibek Alikhanuly to commence negotiations. The parties were granted 10 days to reach an agreement. Due to Team Munguia’s “refusal and lack of interest to fight Alimkhanuly,” the Committee has moved on to Danny Dignum.

The parties herein have 10 days to reach an agreement. If an accord is not reached within this time frame, a purse bid will be ordered with a minimum acceptable bid of $200,000.

  • I learned in another boxing website that Munguia and his team are in negotiations with Jermall Charlo and his team for a fight in June or July, despite the felony charges against Charlo. This is a legitimate world title and most lucrative fight. Hopefully will happen

  • Munguia is looking to secure a high level fight against Jermall Charlo! That is the absolute best matchup @60!!!!!

  • Zhanibek Alimkhanuly would beat Munguia, he’s got a few gold medals under his belt. However if Munguia rather fight a bigger name like Charlo, that be good also.

  • Can’t blame Munguia’s management here. Risky fight that won’t come with a huge paycheck. Can’t think of any scenario where it makes business sense for a big name to get in the ring with Alimkhanuly right now. He’s the new Andrade.

    • Kind of funny that Alimkhanuly could be considered the new Andrade when Andrade avoided the hell out of him.

      • Actually he was offered a fight with Andrade and Munguia turned him down. Munguia chose to fight that last bum. Andrade would be the beat the breaks of that kid.

    • I thought he might have to beat Andrade and take the ‘most avoided’ title away from him, but Alim is just going to kind of inherit it. He won’t have any problems with Dignum and going forward, like you said, there’s no reason for anyone with a name to fight him. Potentially long reign filled with strange mandatories and the occasional past-his-prime voluntary coming soon.

    • Zhanibek Alimkhanuly is more like Golovkin than Andrade. He is a very exciting fighter with serious power,

  • I hope to see Charlo vs. Munguia. Let Alinkhanuli and Eubank, Jr. get in a scrap. Time to close the ranks at 160 and see which dog has the biggest bite.

  • When will these moronic interim “titles” end? Sanctioning bodies exist only to insult the public and collect fees.

    • Only when people have sense enough to ignore these organizations with their meaningless titles.

  • This will be a bad look for the Mexican if a Charlo fight doesn’t happen either.

  • yea i “think” its been confirmed Munguia vs Charbroil for the WBC title on june 18th

  • Read that Munguia and his team (Golden Boy) just negotiated themselves out of the fight with Charlo. I’m not surprised. Munguia wants all the TV and PPV rights. Munguia obviously doesn’t want the fight. Turned down Andrade and now Charlo. Maybe he should fight Ballard again? Guess he wants to fight B and C level opponents. Munguia Is fun to watch and was looking forward the fight with Charlo. I’m just speaking the truth.
