Landeros remains unbeaten

Last Friday, undefeated bantamweight prospect Joseph “El Tigre” Landeros (14-0, 14 KOs) kept his unblemished record and knockout streak alive as he stopped Luis Manuel “Grillo” Macias (10-8-2), in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico as part of “Noches de Boxeo” card, presented by two-time ex world Champion, Raul “Jibaro” Perez of Jibaro Boxing Promotions.

Landeros, 17, from Riverside, California, was able to take control of the fight since the onset, and by using his height advantage and better boxing skills, kept Macias at bay for two rounds. In the third, a straight right to the stomach, dropped the left-handed fighter for the 8 second count near the end of the round.

In the forth, Landeros increased the pressure and after a constant attack to the body, slowed down Macias and pressed him against the ropes. A left hook to the body, followed by a right cross to the chin, dropped Macias to the canvas. Veteran referee Juan Morales Lee, called a halt to the action immediately at the 56 second mark, declaring Landeros the winner by KO, on the longest fight of his career to date.

“We knew coming in that we were going to face a strong opponent, and a difficult one at that. This guy has fought for the WBC Federbox title and against Artem Dalakian, the current WBA flyweight champion. Once the bell sounded, I knew was up against a strong opponent who went toe to toe with me until the fourth round,” said Landeros.

“This victory felt great and showed that our team is the right track. It has been a year of trainer changes, small injuries and new learning experiences, such as a fighting a lefty for the first time as a professional” added, Landeros, who is looking at least one more fight in Mexico, before making his debut in the United States rings, once he reaches the age of 18 years old.

“The time keeps on coming where I will make the transition to fighting in the USA and we want to ensure that we stay in track. I have offers to fight in Culiacan, Guadalajara and Mexico City. Right now it seems as Culiacan, Sinaloa is the better place, as I have a large family in that region and the way my career is shaping, I might not be back there for a long time after this year,” ended Landeros.

“Congratulations to Landeros, I owe my followers a victory. Tried my best, and now we will have to regroup and try to learn from the fight”, said Macias.

The fight was recorded for delayed broadcast to the USA via LATV Networks.
