Louisa “Bang Bang Lulu” Hawton (9-2, 3 KOs) was presented with the WBC interim female atomweight championship by WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman in Mexico City. Hawton scored a fifth round TKO over late sub Lorraine Villalobos (2-2) on December 8.

“We are very happy that Hawton is a new WBC champion,” Sulaiman said. “We know her career and popularity. We hope we can continue on the main stages and see a rising female star.”

Hawton, Australia’s only current world boxing champion, was unsuccessful in her previous world title bid, losing in a close and controversial way against Brenda Flores back in September.

Flores-Hawton II was scheduled for December 8 but Flores pulled citing a medical situation.
