Haney-Lomachenko is official

Top Rank has finally officially announced the clash between undisputed lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (29-0, 15 KOs) and three-division former world champion Vasiliy Lomachenko (17-2, 11 KOs) on Saturday, May 20, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Haney-Lomachenko will stream live on Top Rank on ESPN+ PPV. The PPV will be priced at $59.99 and additionally be available via cable and satellite pay-per-view providers.

Devin Haney: “Lomachenko is a good fighter and future Hall of Fame candidate. I take nothing away from him or what he has done in the sport of boxing. Although he didn’t give me a shot when I challenged him in 2019, I won’t be petty. This is the fight the fans really want, and I made it happen. I’ve gotten two times better since the Kambosos rematch, and believe it or not, the better my opponent is, the better I perform. I can’t wait for this fight. I know Lomachenko has an extremely high boxing IQ, and I will show the world on May 20 that I’m the best fighter on the planet. I’m ready to defend my undisputed title in devastating fashion.”

Vasiliy Lomachenko: “My goal is to become the undisputed lightweight champion, and Devin Haney is the man with the belts. I respect his boxing IQ and am excited for this challenge.”

      • sometimes it’s not so much the heavy power shots that determines victory, it can be simply by eating a steady diet of medium- power punches that eventually saps a fighter’s determination to keep on fighting; and an eloquent argument for that dynamic is how many good fighters quit on their stools rather than continue being beaten down by Lomachenlo’S ‘soft’ punches,

  • Haney is the younger and fresher tiger of the two. However, Lomachenko still can bring it to the table. The downfall in my opinion is Lomachenko cant afford to show up like he is having an “off” night due to his age of 35. He needs to focus and push Haney out of his comfort zone of effectively measuring distance and lateral movement to rack up points. Lomachenko has the ability to frustrate Haney with his multiple angles when he moves. Haney’s youth and movement should push him the victory to a split decision.

    • This is a classic example of fighters going in different directions. Three years ago I would have picked Loma but I honestly think he has almost no shot now. Haney is getting better and more confident every fight and Loma barely got by Ortiz his last fight. He looked very small and really had to work hard against an average opponent. Haney UD 12 around 116-112 imo.

  • Just like davis garcia, this is a terrible matchup for the smaller fighter. Haney is only 1 inch taller but he has a 5 in longer wingspan.

He is also far younger and a naturally bigger person, so rehydration weight will come in to play as well.

I see Haney jabbing and forcing loma to take all the chances to get in range. But even if loma gets inside he’s just not strong enough to do any damage.

Loma’s boxing skill will keep it close, but i expect a unanimous decision for Haney.

  • Loma will look like an ordinary fighter in this one. Haney gonna put on a clinic

  • Who really cares? Lomachenko just wants to be in an undisputed title fight at 35 (or however old he is). He should have dropped down to 130 to try to pick up one of the belts that Shakur left behind. I won’t be petty, but this fight wasn’t worth $59.99 in 2019, so how is it worth that now? And sure, Haney is a dried down 140 pounder like Josh Taylor is a dried down 147 pounder. But they both have belts and title fights coming up to take in some cash and get a likely W. Haney has had from February to May to get serious to make 135 better than he did in the 2nd Kambosos fight. Maybe that is what makes it worth $60 to watch it live.

  • Haney’s a real champion taking this fight. We all know Loma shameless ran and hid behind a Franchise belt. Now that Loma has nothing to lose all the fans are happy about this fight.
He has the hype machine and the right complexion to get pushed to the top of the line for a shot at all the belts when he finally had the nerve to accept the fight.
Lucky for Loma, Haney actually wants to prove he is the best fighter and will put it on the line.
Should be a good fight that should have been happened.

    • Hahah you’re joking right??? I love how you said “the right complexion” and just totally discredit all of his accomplishments. All you clowns ever care about is race. It’s pathetic and hilarious at the same time. Lomachenko is more than deserving of this fight, to say otherwise is just plain ignorant.

      • A racist claiming somebody else is a racist. The only reason like you Loma is because he is the same race you are.

    • by the ‘right complexion, ‘ are you referring to Lomachenko’s Caucasian ethnicity? I ask this BECAUSE HANEY (likEe B -Hop) STATED PUBLICLY THAT He would’ ‘ never lose to a White fighter) I wonder if Mr. Haney will have to eat a slice of humble pie like B.Hopkins did for making such asinine racist comments towards Joe Calzaghe? That issue aside, it should make for an intriguing bout, as both fighters are to-level competiters.

      • White fighters have stated they will never lose to a black fighter as well. I bet you don’t have a problem with that. Second Hopskins was a old man fighting a younger guy. Haney is a younger fighter fighting a older shop worn fighter.

        • Harry Sack…since you spelled it wrong….do you pick fights on every post? You sound like you’re on your period. Get a life. Do a push up. Go away.

  • Loma comes out on top. Too much experience and he breaks Haney down. Unanimous decision. Loma knows he has to impress after his last fight.

  • Loma is way past his sell-by date and too small for Haney. Plus, Haney is being dishonest about Lomachenko ducking him and not giving him a shot. Loma already had the fight lined up with Luke Campbell at the time that Haney was calling him out. Haney and his delusional fans are ignoring reality when they bring this up. Lomachenko owed Haney nothing at that time.

  • Another blockbuster! This is how it should be. Could it be that lightweight is the most interesting division atm?

  • This match is an interesting one Haney the young lion, some decent rivals, a boxer with a decent pack vs a seasoned lion, full of angles, excellent opposition of opponents (Lopez, Linares, Rigondeaux, Walters, and Russell), to named a few, and a very experienced 3 diff weight former champions.
I know that styles make fights and comparing results against the same opponent does not indicate any advantage/disadvantage, just for illustration purposes. Linares is a common opponent among these two. Haney won by DU12 and Loma TKO in 10/12.
I am siding with Lomachenko on this one. I want to believe that Loma has more in his arsenal.

  • Haney by decision. His boxing ability will be too much for a Loma and Loma’s work rate is just to low these days to do any real damage. The only unknown in the fight is how many times will the commentators talk about Loma’s footwork and his dance classes?

  • Dang 60 dollars?
Lomachenko has the speed, style and talent and Haney has all that minus the chin. Culd be a super close controversial win for Haney.

  • could be a great fight wish it was on free tv this ppv is not worth it will save my money i could see loma getting a decision

  • Lomachenko is out of his prime but still great fight

    Tank vs Ryan
    Fulton vs Inoue
    Haney vs lomachenko

I’m still waiting for Crawford vs Spencer

  • Lomachenko is too small at 135, at 35 y old he is getting on as well, but he could still pull this off, not look good doing so, but could get the win.

  • Haney by a pretty easy decision. Loma takes too many rounds off now

  • Haney is trying to inflate his record with old lomachenko , loma is out of his prime and Haney think he will get recognition if he beats old lomachenko

  • I look forward to this one. Loma fans will have one of three responses before and after the fight: Loma is going to win, he was past his prime, or too small. Keep in mind Haney was the mandatory years ago and Loma didn’t fight him, Rigo was much smaller and moved up to fight Loma and he got full credit so why is size a factor now? Haney will win but he will not get the respect that is due. This is the fight in a nutshell.

    • Loma gave an interview prior to the fight stating he did not want to fight rigo because rigo was too old and too little and said it would prove nothing when he easily beats him.

Rigo was a great fighter in his division. But every real boxing fan knew loma was too young, too skilled, too big.

  • you racist posters on here need to be banned from the site.

I’m reporting you all to the administrators. But i really hope you fkrs just die, the world is better without you.

Btw I’m mixed like Richard Pryor, so all of you fkn offend me.

  • Looking forward to seeing a real boxing affair with this one. Even if it’s slow I expect this fight will have some valuable moments of high level technique and prowess from both sides.
