Ghost Guerrero targets Mikey, Pacman and Swift

Former world champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (36-6-1, 20 KOs) is ready to step up in competition. The 36-year-old Guerrero, who retired in July 2017 after losing five of seven fights, returned to the ring 17 months later and has won three in a row on the comeback trail against lower level opponents.

“In 2020 I want to step up and fight any of the big names at welterweight,” said Guerrero. “I wouldn’t mind stepping in the ring with Mikey Garcia, who I think is one of the best fighters in boxing. I’ve always respected Mikey and I think that would be a good fight for the fans. Manny Pacquiao is another big name that I can see myself fighting. I also wouldn’t mind doing a rematch with Danny Garcia.

“Everyone knows I always come to fight, whoever it is. I feel the time off during my lay off did my body some justice as I needed the proper rest. I’ve won all my comeback fights and now its time to step up. Given my track record, I feel I’ve earned the right to be in a big fight. 2020 is going to be a big year for me and I’m ready to take on all the big names.”

  • Guerro needs to step up his level of competition and fight one of the gatekeepers at welterweight to see how he does. Beating C and D level fighters does not prepare you for a world class fighter.

    • Those were the first thoughts I also had when reading above article. He’s an ok guy but delusional if he thinks he deserves a shot at Pacman, or even the Garcias.

I think it would be more realistic for him to get a fight with Vergil Ortiz or Besputin. Neither of them are top 10 in the division, and I am quite certain that he would lose against both of them.

  • The “Ghost” is finished, why would any of those guys want to fight him unless for a tune up knock out after a layoff? He was never at elite level and has slipped considerably with age, he should retire immediately…

    • Immediately David? That’s foolish of you to say. He’s won three in a row, let the man make a living. He’s not getting touched up in his last fights so go pound away on those keyboards while some of us try to make a living doing what we love.

      • He should not have returned to the ring… Hey I always liked watching him fight, but noticed a steady decline, don’t want to see him get hurt or more damaged, he started to take some serious beatings before he retired, that’s all I am saying…I totally understand the same things that make you guys great also makes you return when it’s dangerous to do so…God Bless…

  • It is a free country and Robert can do as he pleases, but he is a first-class person outside of the ring, a solid family man by all accounts, so I sure hope that he doesn’t pay dearly for tough fights at his age.

  • I really wish he wouldn’t fight anymore. I remember watching him in with Omar Figueroa and the way he was reacting to the punches just seemed…. odd. But, he can do what he wants.

  • I guess the ghost needs money, but he has to know himself that he has no chance against those three fighters or anybody else at the top of 140 or 147 lbs.

  • The fight against Danny Garcia was close. So I wouldn’t mine seen him getting a 2nd chance at Danny. He may win that one.
