Fundora camp responds to cheating rumors

Newly crowned WBC interim super welterweight champion Sebastian “The Towering Inferno” Fundora inflicted such damage to the face of opponent Erickson “Hammer” Lubin on Saturday that rumors and conspiracy theories on social media have sprung up regarding Fundora’s gloves and conditioning.

Fundora’s father/trainer Freddy stated “It’s all not true. Erickson Lubin had a representative and The State of Nevada Commission Inspector were both in the room for Sebastian’s hand wrapping and to inspect the gloves. We didn’t even send anyone to Lubin’s room we trust their integrity and the Nevada Commission so much. As far as his work rate in that fight, that’s his dedication. Sebastian trained like he was possessed for this fight. He took it up a level with everything, power, speed and punch rate. That’s what champions do. The Nevada Athletic Commission takes blood and urine after a title fight, so very shortly, any talk of PED use will be proven false when Sebastian comes back all clean.”

Meanwhile, the 6’6 ‘Towering Inferno’ commented “That was a very tough fight. I loved it. I want to let Erickson Lubin know I respect his heart and toughness very much. I went into the fight thinking Lubin’s chin was suspect, but he took everything I could throw at him and still kept coming. I give him major respect and I hope he heals up quickly. He’s a very brave fighter. Get well soon and let’s do it again!”

Fundora’s promoter Sampson Lewkowicz added “A star is born! The Towering Inferno is going straight to the top. The fans love how he fights. He doesn’t back down ever. And everybody likes Sebastian away from the ring. Such a nice family. But, inside the ring, Sebastian Fundora can’t be beaten at 154 lbs. My hat is off to Erickson Lubin, but Sebastian Fundora is going to clean out the division.”

  • C’mon Lubin Camp, don’t sour what was a great fight between two up and coming fighters. Your fighter did a great job, chalk it up as a loss and be thankful he is OK.

  • That is ridiculous. Fundora did not cheat. Fundora beat Lubin’s ass. What is there not to understand? If anyone needs to be punished for cheating, it should be the judges, who “CLAIMED” Lubin was ahead. I am insulted. These jealous / lying / need to get a life losers are vicariously living through Lubin because they don’t have a life of their own. Lubin got his ass kicked. End of story. And if they are upset for betting on Lubin, then good. I am glad they are upset. Makes me feel good. Their disgust gives me joy.

  • Freddy Fundora, his wife, and kids are class acts. Freddy, your son is a mensch. He is a great ambassador to the sport. We all love, Sebastian.

Personally, I am glad Lubin got his ass beat. Some guys like Jussie Smollett, Lebron James, Will Smith, and a few others just need a good ass beating. He got what he Fking Deserved.

  • Deontay Wilder pulled that same shit when he lost. Al Haymon really knows how to pick his winners. Uhm … NOT !!!

  • Watched this fight on Monday. Reminded me a lot of the Guillermo Jones-Denis Lebedev fight years back where the taller Jones continuously landed uppercuts to wreck the face of Lebedev. Lubin took all that a lot better than I thought he was capable of, but showed a different kind of durability issue I guess. He might want to listen to his corner in future fights. May have actually been a winnable fight if he didn’t lay on the inside and allow himself to take those uppercuts as much as he did. Very good fight.

    • I remember watching Jones – Lebedev but not really paying a lot of attention and thinking it was a close fight. Then all of a sudden, Lebedev has this THING growing out the side of his head, he’s a zombie and Jones is literally landing EVERY punch.
I hope this one isn’t too much like that fight though because Jones did actually test positive for something after that one and they vacated the fight.

      • Yep, Lebedev looked like Siamese twins from the shoulders up near the end of the Jones fight. Also, good point on Jones cheating there. Forgot about the banned substance and subsequent overturning of Jones’ win there…

    • I think Lubin should fight the guy on the under card who got the gift draw when he heals. Let Fundora get his title shot. If they both win they can have a rematch down the road. I think the fight is winnable for Lubin if he is not too damaged. Easier said then done but he was not getting out from the inside the way his corner was asking him too. I think he fell into that old trap that Prince Naseem’s opponents used to. If the opponent is easy to hit I should stay in here and hit him. Barrera showed that a dangerous fighter like that can be neutralised by getting your shots off and then moving out of range. Be patient and not greedy. I know that Hamed and Fundora have two different styles but imo the concept on how one should fight them is similar.

      • It’s going to be really interesting to see if Fundora is learning to fight at range. Clearly he enjoys it on the inside and he probably always will, but there will come a point where he will NEED to his use height to win and if he can and still fight on the inside the way he does, he’s going to be really difficult to beat.
And the Hamed comparison is a good one. One of them you go to because he’s so tall so if he’s going to let you in on him – Yep, stay there and go to war, but he might be better at it than you are. And the other you go to because his hands are down and his chin is way up in the air, but he can take you out with one punch and he throws shots at strange angles.

  • I have no idea if there was cheating involved or not. That is up to an investigation. However, if someone makes public claims of specific cheating and are proven wrong, the damaged party should be able to sue for damages to their professional reputation.

    • Great post, Bruce. I agree. False accusers should get their asses sued! And IMO, there was no cheating. Fundora started boxing at an early age & has lived a clean life, so it’s no wonder he can punch in high volume with power all night long!

  • A person walks into the police station at the Emergency Room at a hospital in Las Vegas, NV.

Officer: Rihanna, did Chris Brown beat you up again?

Lubin: I ain’t NO Rihanna. A man just assaulted me with fake ass mother fucking gloves.

Officer: Mr. Lubin, I saw the fight. Stop making excuses, Rihanna. You got your ass beat.

Lubin: I ain’t got no mother fucking ass beat, and my name ain’t no mother fucking Rihanna. I won that fight. I beat that ass.

Officer: Mr. Lubin, the intensive care unit is on the left. They will check you in.

    Lubin: Thank you, Mr. Officer.

  • Fundora is innocent until proven guilty. Fundora worked hard for a solid victory.

Meanwhile, after Lubin heals, the Lubin camp should work on keeping his elbows tighter during inside fighting; and they should work on Lubin not squaring up so much during inside fighting. Lubin’s wide elbows in a squared up defensive position is not a good combination for him.

Lubin’s camp should make adjustments and not excuses.

  • Lubin coming up with excuses cause Fundura gave him an old fashioned mississipi beating lol

  • Tall guys like Fundora get lots of leverage on there punches. Tall lanky guys always have. He is no different. He has natural power. And if you get caught at the end of his punch you will get busted up too. No doubt about it.

  • Lanky guys with power for some reasons tend to damage
their opponents face. Alexis Arguello for instance was very vicious on that, Alfredo Escalera face was a mess when they fought, being the first fight the most brutal, Fundora vs Lubin was a lot similar.

  • Fernando Vargas’ camp did the same thing in trying to smear Tito Trinidad after the beating he received! Totally classless unless you have real proof?!

  • He’s too good and he’s too tall and he hits too hard. That’s cheating!

  • Fundora hit him with so many uppercuts and left and right hooks, i do not think I have ever seen so many of those shots on somebody. Lubin showed a big heart. great fight.

  • this was NOT a great fight. Maybe for the young MMA fans who just want to see a street fight. The trainers of both fighters should be ashamed. What kind of trainer has a 6’5″ fighter fight in close and absorb so much punishment? A very brave macho trainer apparently. This guy could have done what Hearns did to Pipino Cuevas. Stand on the outside and tee off with his powerful right hand. This kid will not have long career taking all the punishment. The other guys trainer is completely inept. The kid got hit with scores of upper cuts and never once tried to slip the pinch or move his head. It was an amateur performance. This was a slugfest with 2 poorly trained fighters that entertained the MMA crowd

  • Gravity punches at 6ft six inches to lubins shorter height could of led to more serious facial damage.

Don’t take this away from Fundora. Please not now. Great fights ahead for him!

  • I still think the best prospect in the division is Charles Conwell. He has one-punch knockout power & would have no trouble landing on Fundora.
