Foreman says he’s being extorted

By TMZ.com

Boxing legend George Foreman says two women have made up claims that he sexually abused them … all in an effort to extort him out of millions of dollars.

Sources familiar with the matter tell TMZ Sports … a lawsuit against Foreman is expected to be filed in L.A. this week by two women whose fathers apparently had a friendship and working relationship with Foreman decades ago.

The suit, according to our sources, is expected to allege that Foreman sexually abused the women in the 1970s.

But, Foreman said in a statement on Wednesday that the allegations are flat-out not true.

“Over the past six months,” Foreman said, “two women have been trying to extort millions of dollars each from me and my family. They are falsely claiming that I sexually abused them over 45 years ago in the 1970s.”

“I adamantly and categorically deny these allegations. The pride I take in my reputation means as much to me as my sports accomplishments, and I will not be intimidated by baseless threats and lies.”

Our sources say Foreman believes the suit and the allegations in it are all part of “a coordinated extortion plot” in which the women have asked him to pay them $12.5 MILLION each.

“I am, and always will be, guided by my faith and trust in God,” Foreman said. “I will work with my lawyers to fully and truthfully expose my accusers’ scheme and defend myself in court. I don’t pick fights, but I don’t run away from them either.”

Foreman — a former two-time heavyweight champ who went on to create the George Foreman Grill — piled up a 76-5 record in his boxing career. He reportedly has a net worth of around $300 million.

  • I hope justice prevails here. As an aside, George didn’t create the Lean, Mean, Fat-Reducing Grilling Machine, it was invented and completely designed by Michael Boehm.

    • George Foreman never claimed he invented the grill machine. He said in many interviews that this device was almost a forgotten artifact in the stores and he has the idea to make a paid commercial to sale it with a well elaborated idea and the success was something never expected, even he got paid so much that when they renewed the contract, Foreman willingly accepted a reduction on the sale commissions. I heard this from Foreman himself when he was on HBO.

    • No, but he certainly promoted the hell out of it. If memory serves he ended up getting a $100 million buyout for his efforts from the grill company.

  • There are 2 George Foreman’s. The pre Jimmy Young monster who mercilessly crushed opponents with a Sonny Liston like demeanour and a post Jimmy Young nice guy. Just hope the monster version didn’t turn to God because of what he may have done to the accusers. Seems a little long to bring up an incident that occurred 50 years ago.

    • George did his job crushing opponents and still had kos after the Jimmy Young fight. Nothing to figure GF was ever a “monster”, as you put it. We call Inoue Monster for what he does in the ring but nobody expects he’s assaulting women.

  • Unless these incidents produced children named “George?” Consider me dubious…

  • Frivolous lawsuits. The women are hoping George settles just to make them go away. George is gonna win just like Johnny Depp!

  • Why isn’t there a statute of limitations on all these belated sexual abuse/rape charges? If a woman can’t report an assault within a few days of the crime (assuming she’s cognitively functional), the courts should refuse to hear it. Anyone can claim they were “abused” 45 years ago, but how can they prove it?

    • @Cubanitovich Totally agree. What can possibly be proven here one way or the other at this point? Can’t imagine how the women in this case have any chance of winning the lawsuit. They will probably have to settle for just dragging his name through the mud for retribution here, which has already begun. I wonder what Foreman’s legal fees will end up looking like for this?

Can’t help but think of Bill Cosby here. I had always kind of linked the Cosby & Foreman because of the movie scene they did together (YouTube Foreman vs. Cosby). Would hate to see this unfold the same way Cosby’s situation unfolded. Always had George pegged as one of the good guys in the sport.

  • So now George is the latest target in the Me Too movement. Why didn’t these women speak up 45 years ago? That’s if it is true.

  • im not going to get love for this post but….

George foreman In the 70s was a mean dude, very different from the jovial teddy bear we know him as now. Im not saying he did it, but he did ‘find jesus’ after his loss to jimmy young. Usually people who are ‘born again’ Christians do so because of a past they are not proud of.

But coming after him 45 years later does seem quite dubious.

I really hope he didnt do it. hes one of my favourite boxers.

  • FROM THE 70’s????

    WHAT????

C’mon now. That’s almost 50 years ago. STOP IT!!!!!

I wasn’t there so I don’t know anything. But I do know you shouldn’t wait 50 years to report a crime.

What happened to the statute of limitations? THATS CRAZY!!!

I don’t want to sound insensitive, that’s a horrible crime to commit, but there’s got to be a fine line to draw on situations like this.

    Enough is enough!

These women coming out of the word work should be persecuted and penalized as strong as their accusers when their stories don’t add up.

It’s crazy that a real judge and courtroom would even entertain this nonsense.

SMH. The world we live in, man!

  • 45 years later? It looks like another SCAM to make a celebrity pay money. There should be a very stringent guideline on these types of accusations. And the accusers should face jail time if they’re are found to be scam artists.

  • Good for George to get in front of these allegations instead of hiding and hoping they dont come about.
