Lots of action on both Friday and Saturday this week.
FRIDAY
ESPN+ presents WBO junior flyweight champion Jonathan “Bomba” Gonzalez (27-3-1, 14 KOs) against #14 Gerardo “Cascabel” Zapata (14-1-1, 5 KOs) from the Polideportivo Alexis Arguello in Managua, Nicaragua.
DAZN counters with undisputed female featherweight champion Amanda Serrano (45-2-1, 30 KOs) defending her WBA/IBF/WBO titles only against Danila Ramos (12-2, 1 KO) at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida, in a bout contested over twelve, three-minute rounds. The WBC did not sanction the bout.
SATURDAY
WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (33-0-1, 24 KOs) fights in a ten round non-title boxing match against MMA star Francis Ngannou in a $79.99 PPV from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This is an all-heavyweight card that will also feature Fabio Wardley (16-0, 15 KOs) against David Adeleye (12-0, 11 KOs), Joseph Parker (32-3, 22 KOs) against Simon Kean (23-1, 22 KOs), and Arslanbek Makhmudov (17-0, 16 KOs) against Junior Wright (20-4-1, 17 KOs).
DAZN has WBC super featherweight champion O’Shaquie Foster (20-2, 11 KOs) defending against KO artist Eduardo “Rocky” Hernandez (34-1, 31 KOs) from the Poliforum Benito Juarez in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico.
The undercard to Fury – Ngannou might actually be pretty good: Simon Kean finally stepping up after 8 years pro and 34 years old. Let’s see what has. Wardley & Adeleye have been going back and forth for awhile, that could be fun. Looking forward to Foster – Hernandez as well, even though I think Foster dominates.
Wardley vs Adeleye could be a cracker.
Last time I checked Danila Ramos was not ranked by any of the four “main” sanctioning bodies, For once the WBC is doing something right by not sanctioning this fight. Serrano all day, every day and twice on Sunday.
She’s the WBO interim champion and I agree with you: Serrano hasn’t stopped anyone in a few fights – I think she gets back on track against Ramos with the extra time to work.
so thats why shes not in the rankings. Tks.
And kudos for three minute rounds for the Serrano/Ramos fight. I think were going to start seeing more tko’s in womens boxing with the three minute round’s. The ladies would tire more and make more mistakes resulting in more stoppeges. At least I hope so…
I believe that moving from ten 2-minute rounds (i.e. 20 minutes) to 12 3-minute rounds (36 minutes) represents a massive risk to those who have not been given enough time to adjust. This is an 80 percent increase in potential fight time. This is too much and is almost irresponsible to implement on an ad-hoc basis. An increase of this quantum should be phased in.
– I’ll watch the undercard highlights on YouTube.
– Not even going to watch the main event for free on the FireStick…….
