Eubank-Benn postponed

0k8a4106

Saturday’s DAZN clash between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn is now off after lawyers failed to get a court injunction to allow the fight despite the prohibition of the British Boxing Board of Control. The BBBofC pulled the plug after Benn tested positive for a trace amount of a banned women’s fertility drug.

Matchroom/Wasserman Statement: After discussions with various parties, we have taken the decision to formally postpone the bout between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn.

It is undeniable that the British Boxing Board of Control’s decision to withdraw their sanctioning was procedurally flawed and without due process. That remains a legal issue between the promoters and the Board which we intend to pursue.

However, whilst there are legal routes to facilitate the fight taking place as planned, we do not believe that it is in the fighters’ interests for those to be pursued at such a late stage, or in the wider interests of the sport. As promoters, we take our obligations and duties very seriously, and a full investigation will now need to take place. We will be making no further comment at this time and news for ticket holder refunds will follow.

  • “Benn tested positive for a trace amount of a banned women’s fertility drug.”

Business is about to pick up lol. Ii can only imagine the jokes that will come from the internet with this discovery.

    • Yeah if he doesn’t get pregnant now, the fight cancellation will have been for nothing!!

      • SHOWTIME and now, DAZN have been making subscribers pay for PPV fights where BOTH opponents did not have enough mainstream media recognition to merit a PPV- caliber event. There is a stream of upcoming fights that are not precisely or don’t deserve PPV treatment.

    • Yep. If he had a higher name recognition, it would be over. He tested positive for this as a safety cushion because it’s a making agent. Looks like he’s been eating all types of meats.

  • So it was postponed because of the failed drug test or was there another reason?

    • British boxing board of control wouldn’t sanction it and Hearn didn’t want to take other option

        • There are sometimes crafty ways around it, but it doesn’t reflect well on the promoter. I remember when David Haye fought Chisora, they had just had that incident at the Klitschko press conference. British boxing board of control wouldn’t sanction Chisora in a fight, so they fought under the “Luxembourg Boxing Federation” haha. The fight still took place in Britain though. Seems absurd in retrospect haha

  • The below comment is from another website_____
For those wondering why he’s on a female fertility drug, it’s a Post Cycle Therapy (PCT) drug. During the steroid cycle his body’s natural testosterone production would be shut down and depending on aspects of the cycle (duration, dosage, etc) it’ll take a while afterward for his body to start producing again (leading to a big dip in performance for that period). So the goal in PCT is to take one or more drugs to try to kickstart the body back into natural production; Clomiphene is one of about three drugs (others being HCG and Tamoxifen) that are classically used for this purpose.

Generally when you see a fighter pop for something that looks odd like this and seems to have no use, it’s either being used as a PCT drug (i.e. like this) to counter the negatives of steroid usage, or it’s a masking agent (e.g. diuretics, heart medications, etc) to cover up the steroid usage itself.

So yeh, looks like young Benn has been roiding up in the off-season. If we claim to care about drug-use then the fight should be cancelled and he should be suspended.

    • Good content, Adz. Curious why there is no suspension unless the amount was low or
      There was something amiss
      About the testing protocol.

      • There was no suspension because it was VADA and not UKAD that found the positive trace.
The BBBOC will only suspend if it’s a positive UKAD test.
        Stupid really.

    • Good post. Interesting stuff. The greater significance of this is that Benn probably just isn’t that good. He will likely come through a suspension, but it is difficult to see him living up to the hype prior to this.

    • But what’s your opinion on the lack of the B sample and also the fact that Benn showed up clean on the drug testing administered by the other organization?

    • Adz, spot on. Very likely a masking agent, creating a soft landing pad should he get popped. Now he can blame it on a tainted whatever.

  • A postponement is the right move. I’d be pissed if I was Eubank, and as for Benn, regardless of the facts on the matter, the unfortunate truth is that this will follow him for the rest of his career.

    • I really wonder, I actually wanted Algieri to win that one. Now I can’t help but think there should be an Astérix next to that win.

  • Eddie is becoming a complete mess of a promoter. From horrendous matchmaking to feeding bullshit stories to the press to get “fan engagement” and not making fights that matter, he’s brutal.

  • “It is undeniable that the British Boxing Board of Control’s decision to withdraw their sanctioning was procedurally flawed and without due process.” Guess the BBoC is getting tired of all the british fighters popping then getting a stay of execution through the so called due process which was to let the fight continue and we will deal with it later…good to see BBoC tightening the belt a bit.

  • Is this why Chris Eubanks with calling for a boycott of this fight? Maybe he knew before the news broke loose and it wasn’t just about the catch-weight.
