The fact that Canelo is a favorite against a light heavy proves a step up in weight is not a step up in class. Would Canelo be a favorite against Roy Jones Jr? Canelo is fighting these easy fight and avoiding top black and latino fighters.

Canelo is good but at 168 he would have lost to following fighters in prime: Calzaghe, Toney, RJJ, Ward and possibly Kessler.
He is the favorite because the oddsmakers know more people will bet Canelo-not because they think he is better.
Now if canelo is favorite over natural 185 lbs is because he moved in weight and class otherwise he would not be the favorite
