Former Australian light middleweight champion Joel Camilleri (18-6-1, 8 KOs) outpointed Samuel Colomban (25-12-1, 12 KOs) at the Melbourne Pavilion at Flemington, Victoria on Friday. Camilleri controlled the action in all of the rounds to be awarded the decision by scores of 100-90, 99-91, 99-91.
Camilleri was returning to the ring after suffering a ten round points loss IBF#8 Tim Tszyu to lose the Australian crown in May. Colomban was coming off a seven round stoppage loss in South Korea toJung Kyoung Lee in a challenge for the OPBF crown in January.
In other action WBA #7 middleweight Tayla Harris (6-0, 3 KOs) stopped Margarite Butcher in round two of a scheduled eight round bout with the vacant female Australian middleweight title up for grabs. Harris who is also a AFL football star said “I’ve been working a lot on power and trying to make a statement in boxing in Australia.
“Obviously, I’ve got ambitions to fight around the world, so I’ll try my best to make a statement and whether that means a knockout or just a really clinical fight, that’s what I’ll aim to do.”
