Bryan-Dubois WBA purse bid on March 14

The World Boxing Association (WBA) Championships Committee has announced the purse bid for the bout between world heavyweight champion Trevor Bryan (22-0, 15 KOs) and official challenger Daniel Dubois (17-1, 16 KOs) will be held on Monday, March 14. The proceedings will be directed by the chairman of the Championships Committee Carlos Chavez at 10AM US Eastern time through the Zoom platform.

Bryan must defend the title against Dubois after having received special permission to face Jonathan Guidry last January. Dubois is the mandatory challenger because he held the division’s interim title when the WBA’s world title reduction plan kicked off.

  • I definitely want to see this fight. Another test for both. If Bryan retains his title he is the real deal.

  • I don’t think that DuBois is an unbeatable fighter for Bryan, but he would have to lose 25-30ish lbs from the weight of his last two fights in my opinion. The guy who fought Guidry and Stiverne gets taken out in the first half of the fight by DD in my opinion.

  • Dubois could simply use the jab on the outside and rack points up to keep Bryan on the end of his punches. Dubois is more athletic, faster, and has a lot to prove in his comeback. Dubois’ hunger to win in this opportunity should push him to excel in his skills. Sorry, but I am still chuckling over Bryan even being called a champion. Don King and his cronies could produce, bend, and pay off anyone to change rules and manipulate the system in their favors.

  • A WBA title fight involving one of King’s fighters. Hopefully Dubois isn’t planning on winning a decision here. Always thought Bryan was a decent fighter, but he looked like dung against Guidry. Actually interested in seeing what Bryan-Dubois will look like.

I doubt this happens much in boxing….but any chance Bryan might have been instructed to carry Guidry a bit? Bryan looked especially bad that night, and did nothing for long stretches, then suddenly opened up in the 12th and nearly had Guidry out. I doubt that’s the case, but it has crossed my mind. King being involved makes me think it’s possible. Bryan’s not an all time great, but I’ve never seen him look that bad….

    • I’m thinking that the inactivity is just catching up to him USF. He’s only 32 which is a great age for a heavyweight, he’s right in his prime, but he put on 30lbs in the two and a half years between BJ Flores and Bermane Stiverne and then came in for Guidry at the same weight. If he continues along that same pace, I would expect him to continue to look worse and worse.

      • You’re probably right. I once thought he had a shot at beating, or at least being competitive with Dubois. Hard to tell now. It would be disappointing to see Bryan come in out of shape for this one. He’ll need to be at his best to have a shot…

    • No need to worry about the judges. I’d be shocked if this goes past four rounds. Dubois is a legit heavyweight contender; Bryan probably isn’t a top 25 guy. Worse yet, he’s in terrible shape. Dubois’ pressure will be too much for an out of shape, lumbering heavyweight that doesn’t pack much power.

  • Dubois will put some orden in this ness created by the WBA that started by naming Mahmoud Charr interim champion, Trvor Bryan regular champion and so on. Once Dubois flatten Bryan, things might go in the right direction with Dubois in the mix, along Joshua, Usyk, Fury, Parker and maybe Wilder. I hope Frank Warren wins the purse bid.

  • Great interesting fight, maybe it’s too much of a gap for Bryan. Dubois is gonna show him that there are levels in boxing.

  • A fight between two nobodys for the “We Belt Anybody” title? Wow. This purse bid might just eclipse $20…

  • It’s NOT a world title fight. It’s another WBA con trick. Dubios is better than this. He needs to look for a ‘real’ world title or even a European title. This is time wasting.

    • This isn’t a bad deal for Dubois. He’ll win a sham belt for a round to or two of easy work. He’ll get the win and more experience. He’s young and doesn’t need to jump right back to the top of the heap.

  • I read Dubois had to sign with Don king to make the fight happen. Shambles if true

    • If you really think that Warren would allow his fighter to sign with King to fight for a worthless belt, then you are new to this. Firstly Bryan needs the money more than Dubois, who is already a wealthy Young man (look at the huge house he bought for his family), i would bet that he is better of financially than Bryan. But most Important Warren, who is just as big or may even be bigger a con man than King, would not allow his (in his eyes) young future champ, to sign to no one. Heavyweight boxing in Britain is huge at the moment, there are about 8-10 wealthy heavies in Britain, they may never win a title but they are making a lot of money, even a bum like Dave Allen is well off.
