Bivol poised to get back in the ring

WBA light heavyweight super champion Dmitry Bivol (17-0, 11 KOs) was unable to enter the ring during the eventful 2020 but was always had the attention of the press and fans because of his quest for great fights. He is ready to return in early 2021 to fight in the United States against big-name opponents.

It has been more than a year since he last defended his black and gold belt (in October 2019) against Dominican Lenin Castillo. Bivol is the 175-pound Super Champion, and as such, he intends to challenge the best in the division; however, he has stated that he is willing to change divisions if one of the big names fighting in the nearby weight categories is willing to take him on.

His boxing style is remarkable for his strength and the concentration he exhibits in each of his fights. He is organized, does not waste punches and has an incredible precision that gives his opponents very few opportunities.

He has been a WBA champion since May 2016 and has made five defenses of the title, in addition to two bouts when he was interim champion. The American market already knows him and what he is capable of, the only thing left is to take great challenges like Artur Beterbiev or other top names to continue shining.

  • Light heavyweight is a desert field at this moment, where only few good names are found. Beside Ramirez and Beterbiev, the only option is Pascal. There are some promising names, but they still green, two that I like are Joshua Buatsi and Bektemir Melikuziev. Then not much options

  • I was just thinking he could fight Bek since you know he was already in camp for a fight. But if he does want “big-name opponents”…. good luck with Dmitry. I kind of feel bad for him. He’s clearly talented, he’s right in his prime at 30 years old and he might end up continuing to keep getting frozen out of big fights for the foreseeable future.

  • What other name right now is there, let him fight Berbetev. What other really big fight in the light heavy is there. Bohol easily beat Joe Smith, though perhaps Smith next time might be better with his two recent wins.

  • he needs to fight Beterbiev theres nothing else out there unless he moves up to cruiser then that new ridiculous weight bridger to be a 3 weight division champion if hes good then he should do it with ease

    • He was actually talking about being able to move down in weight to 168, so I don’t know if Bivol will ever be a cruiserweight.

  • Bivol reminds me of the waning days of HBO with Lampley and company crowing about how exciting their house fights were.

  • Everyone at 175 and 168 will duck the Russian except for his countrymen, Beterbiev. Canelo could put every clause imaginable and have Dimitri accept, including a short notice, and Alvarez would still find a way out of the fight. Dimitri is too prime for Canelo, even though they are the same size

  • The EasternEuro champs are fighting the best and Canelo is running after the weakest belt available since fighting an aging triple G.. Don’t get me wrong Canelo is a skillfull fighter but he never will be recognized like a guy taking on the best challenges because he’s scared of loosing. He is doing was Mayweather did before him..
