Andrade: I’d love to fight tonight’s winner

WBO middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade will be a more than interested spectator as Gennadiy Golovkin and Sergiy Derevyanchenko clash for the vacant IBF and IBO titles at Madison Square Garden live on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports in the UK. Andrade (28-0 17 KOs) is set to defend his WBO crown in December and both GGG and Canelo Alvarez are on ‘Boo Boo’s’ radar for 2020.

“Fighting either one of them would be cool,” said Andrade. “Sergiy is a durable guy, his only loss is to Danny Jacobs, one of the best out there, and we’re going to see what is left in GGGs tank tonight. Has he gotten a little older or not? We can’t tell until tonight, and it’s a good step up for Sergiy to see his skill level. Either way, I would get in the ring with the winner as they are both stand out guys.

“GGG is the more popular guy and I want to go out and beat the popular guy. He may not be the most skillful out there. He’s put in the work, they’ve moved him well and he’d be a great guy to put on the resume, even if he loses – it’s still GGG!

“I’m not frustrated, I’m working on my own legacy. I want to stay active, fight who we can fight, fight my mandatories and do what we have to do so there’s no more excuses for why people won’t fight me. There’s a small window of names out there now and sooner or later, we’re going to have to fight. So how can I be frustrated when I am a world champion again, fighting four times in a year, I’m getting paid, I’m chilling, my family is good – there’s nothing to be frustrated about. It would still be an honor to get in with Canelo, with GGG, they’ve done a lot for the sport and so am I. It’s going to happen, me and Canelo are in the same age group.

“When it comes to skills, I do believe I’m the most talented fighter out there. So, people don’t want their business destroyed by fighting me. But at the end of the day, you are fighting one of the best. You’re going to say that you fought Demetrius Andrade – Olympic champion, two-weight World champion, what is there to be upset about. Everyone is fighting around the same time, GGG-Derevyanchenko tonight, Canelo in November, I’ll be fighting in December, we can fight in May or June, so it’s all lining up and all I have to do is keep winning and looking good.”

  • Just get in the ring afterwards like a gentleman. Then give him a shove when you get close. GGG will make it happen after that. I’m with Boo Boo! He’s got these guys.

  • Andrade has had a few good wins over the years, and he will get his shot at more title fights. Considering that Andrade fights very careful and defensive + has limited fire power, he may not get as far though as he thinks he will. We will all know more once he’ll get in the ring with an elite fighter.

    • Andrade has been avoided along time because of his boxing skills and pinpoint accuracy speed is power

  • Nobody wants to get in the ring with Andrade, even though Andrade is getting older now. He will make a boring fight, you won’t look good against him, and chances are, you’ll lose a decision to him. Andrade will almost be 32, or will be 32 by the times he gets a big fight. And Golovkin is pushing 38. Andrade has to look at his top 8 in his organization. (Andrade already beat Fox).

    • Andrade should get it on with Jacobs if he’s serious about being an elite fighter in the division.

        • Good question, Mike. I think that Jacobs can still fight at 160, but even if not, Andrade is 6’1″, so why not at super middle? Jacobs didn’t say that he is done at 160, but that he will “most likely” fight at 168. One way, or the other, Andrade has to start to fight elite fighters if he wants to be recognized as a top tier boxer.

  • N O N E of these belts-holders stand out. That is what people need to ascertain, Spiritually discern, research, appreciate, comprehend, etc. Mr. Alvarez’ PED scandal is still a topic of interest to those of integrity. Mr. Andrade, GGG, Mr. Jacobs, the Charlos, the Mayweathers, etc., have done absolutely nothing for [the betterment of] boxing with all of them having the same language regarding [the fraudulent line of] “I’m a world champion” while being part of an era of manipulative match-making schemes. Boxing needs a Union, O N E Crown per weight division and same-day honest scale weigh-in. Archie Moore is a great example of [career long same-day weigh-in, honest living, career longevity, battle tested resilience, undetectable prime years, most brink of destruction wins, Lineal Crown tenor [after years of being avoided and staying true to his craft and not waning physically, mentally and psychologically] adaptability, killer instinct, high knockout ratio [and over a long period], aged well in-ring and most importantly excelled through the most diverse combat temperatures. None of today’s fighters exemplify those [up to date] impeccable feats. Today, the term ‘champion’ carries no weight, purpose, marketing strength and uniqueness. In a pathetic manner, if Adrien Broner, Robert Easter and Floyd ‘Two decades of Low risks for High Reward’ Mayweather had one or multiple acronym belts. It says a lot about the acronym belts chicanery and this era’s quality of pugilists. HalleluYAH To The L I V I N G God. Copyright 2019 Coach Hilario

    • @Hilario: thanks for the interesting comment. Lots of truth in it, no doubt. I don’t think, however, that GGG is in the same category as hyped up and extremely calculative fighters like Mayweather and Alvarez. He’s an honest fighter who always wanted to fight the best. He has proved over and over again that he’s a legitimate champ. The only who beat him so far, was Adalaide Byrd, who happens to be one of the most corrupt judges in boxing history.

      • What about Martirosyan or Rolls?? Sorry Stone, but Golovkin has been involved in some gruesome mismatches. I will not argue his honesty and amazing boxing qualities though.

        • Yes, the Martirosyan and Rolls match ups were questionable choices. At the same time, its seems that GGG needed time for experiments after he switched trainer.

For me, GGG is one of the most honest boxers out there, but as we have seen in his fight against Derevyanchenko, he’s on the decline now and he has to be very careful in his next fights – or retire before he gets hurt.

      • I didn’t imply GGG was calculative, I mentioned him in the listing of no boxer in the history of the sport ever campaigned for boxing’s integrity. Then form a collaborative thereof.

  • Is a shame that Andrade is belong to the group of difficult avoided fighter, the same type that we have seen over and over through the years in boxing. Who wanted to fight Winky Wright? Almost the same is happening to Andrade. How to forget when he was asking to take Canelo’s place, blatantly ignored by Golovking and his team, being an ultra shot and semiretired Martirosyan the selection instead.

  • Andrade fights to put people to sleep. No power, boring as hell. He’s his own worst enemy due to his ZERO power. My grandma punches harder than Pooper. He’s like the anti-David Lemieux.

    • Boo Boo aka Poo Poo aka STINKER always stinks out the fight. He’s like an old chia pet.
