Undisputed super lightweight champion Josh Taylor: “I’m ecstatic. I’ve trained my whole life for this. I’ve dedicated my whole life for this moment. I’ve dreamt of it so many times over, man. I’m so, so happy. I’m over the moon. I’ve trained for this moment all my life.

“I thought the scorecards were a little tight. I thought they were well wider than that. I wasn’t too happy with the selection of the judges, but I wasn’t going to moan. I was confident in winning this fight anyway.

“I’ve got nothing but love for Ramirez. This week was no disrespect. It was all part of the mind games to get in his head, to make him more eager to jump in at me and be more aggressive, to use his aggression against him.”

Promoter Bob Arum added, “What a sensational fight. Both men should be applauded, and a hearty congratulations to the new undisputed champion, Josh Taylor. The future is bright for both warriors.”

  • Great fight! Taylor’s one shortcoming…I’ve seen him coast in the 11th and 12 round in 3 fights. In the this fight he proved to be a bigger puncher than I thought, and rarely got caught with a clean, flush shot!

  • I thought Taylor clearly won the fight regardless of the knockdowns he scored.

  • Good tough scrap which Ramirez definitely had his moments but Taylor won it with the 2 knockdowns. One thing is for certain, Taylor better stay away from the welterweights, that hit and grab for dear life that he does will not help him against Ortiz or Spence as they would walk right through him even Porter would maul him. Crawford toys with him before bludgeoning him.

Be smart Taylor stay away from the big boys.

  • I am looking forward the Josh Taylor vs Subriel Matias. But before the Puerto Rican must win the tough unbeaten russian.

  • Taylor make good fight but he use some dirty trick.pushing down and hitting.

  • Good fight.. understand historical significance..,.though…just don’t believe in the buzz following Taylor..

easier to unify belts cause the welterweight division has all the beasts grazing in it….fighters left the lower weights near that division….chasing money and competition.,.Taylor, while a champion no doubt,…..would not beat some of the contenders in the welterweight division…. understand the significance of the hype for this unification fight but Taylor just isn’t that special talent that merits the attention…the stars just aligned right for him to get the opportunity…now fighters like Crawford and BHop on the other hand quite a different story … certainly had the skill set worthy of the attention…with Crawford vacating the belts in this division to make this fight possible….

Though Taylor beat those put before him to unify the belt.. circumstances led to opportunity…..His talent does justify the hype,..

    • They are both really welterweights-these junior divisions do nothing but make fights between the top guys less likely. Easier to just move to another less challenging division.

  • Well done Mr. T a nice win for the Scot! My only concern is that it appeared he was biding his time too much, waiting to catch him with the one big shot. Should have been busier, he may have gotten him out of there.

  • It was a good fight but in my opinion, much closer than what the final score cards read… I’d like to see a rematch, I give Taylor much kudos for his performance, he’s got a great chin and a great jab… BUT, even in the rounds where Ramirez was knocked down, Ramirez came back strong…. I thought it was much closer. IF there hadn’t been any knockdowns, I woud have given it a draw .. The 2 knockdowns did it for me giving the nod to Taylor.. A rematch would be great…

  • Mikey Garcia is my man, i know he’s moved up in weight but I’d like to see him come down and fight Taylor… Taylor would be school’d for sure if it happened…
