Rocha: I could have gotten him out of there sooner

“I got the knockout but I know I could’ve done better,” said Alexis Rocha after his ninth round stoppage of Blair Cobbs on Saturday night. “It took me quite a while to adjust. He was running, very awkward at first. This is what I need so I can develop as an all around fighter. It took me awhile since I wasn’t listening to my coach. I was getting careless, only throwing one shot, not cutting the ring and not throwing my combinations. I could have gotten him out of there sooner.

“The only round that I actually let my hands go I followed him up. That’s what put him down, me throwing combinations. I want to give Blair credit. He was a tough opponent, he was awkward and he did a lot of trash talking but you don’t play with Mexico. Viva Mexico!”

“He was just a good fighter today,” said Cobbs. “I was impressed by the way he came out. He got me with some pretty good shots. He got me in the later rounds very good so shout-out to him and his team. I was throwing shots but I wasn’t following up with them. I just couldn’t recover and figure it out in time to take over the fight. He did a tremendous job. I just wanted to give a shout-out to everyone that came out and I promise that Blair ‘The Flair’ will be back.”

  • all that Talk from Cobb and he turns around and gets KOd lol oh well Hype and trash talk always invites Karma to crash the party

  • Cocky clown got destroyed. Watching the video of Cobb getting punched around his ridiculous hairdo flopping around he looked like a rag doll and if he was a humble down time earth dude I might actually feel sorry for him the way he was manhandled and socked around like a raggedy Andy, no wait he looked more like Ann than Andy.

Disrespecting others Iike he/she did came back to haunt him. I hope he can pick up the pieces and humble himself a bit we all deserve second chances.

  • Oh man! Cobb got destroyed badly, his afro almost got ripped from his head from the massive head blows. It took one match to humble him. No mas!

  • You have to hand it to Blair, he was trying to win but as Spence said, he’s a 33-year-old prospect and he just can’t take punishment.

    • Watching Cobb get blasted like that was highly entertaining. His body language was hilarious. Flopping around like it was a Hollywood movie fight. The afro only exaggerated it moreso.

Shit talkers deserve this level of humiliation.

I don’t want anybody to get hurt but I thoroughly enjoyed this.

      • You know he fights like an actor who believes he’s now a boxer. Exaggerated overly dramatic movement, wild arm punches. He’ll never beat a top 25 guy.

  • Other than lateral movement, Cobb showed little. To talk like he did, and show so little takes a lot of nerve. Jaron Ennis probably would’ve knocked him out in 1 round.

  • Sub comes in at the last minute and Cobbs gets mugged. LMAO. What a fun spectacle to watch that was.

  • Wonder what they’ll do with Rocha now. Hope it gets him a big fight and he doesn’t end up fighting… like Eddie Gomez or someone like that.

    • I am often complaining about early stoppages…I thought that this one was stopped properly. They gave him a proper chance to show he could continue and when it was apparent he could not they stopped it. Good Job! Call me crazy but I think Cobbs and Broner should fight. I doubt they could make it happen with the egos and politics but I think the fight would draw. Maybe have them appear on a card together with tune ups and then face each other. Hard to know where Rocha goes. Welter as normal has a lot of talent as you move up the ladder.

  • Ha! Looks like Cobb won’t be calling out the likes of Ennis or Spence anytime soon LOL!! Learned the hard way that there are levels to this game!!

  • Prior to this fight I had never seen Cobb fight before but after the first round you could see that his punches didn’t carry any weight or power.
