In a WBC lightweight eliminator, 2012 Olympic gold medalist Luke Campbell (19-2, 15 KOs) avenged his loss against Yvan Mendy (40-5-1, 19 KOs) with a twelve round unanimous decision on Saturday night at London’s Wembley Arena. Scores were 119-109, 118-111 and 116-112.
More disappointment for British heavyweight fan favorite David Price (22-6, 18 KOs). Price was unable to continue after four rounds against unbeaten Sergey Kuzmin (13-0, 10 KOs). Price stated afterward that he entered the fight with a torn bicep and he could barely move his arm when the bout was stopped.
Unbeaten cruiserweight Lawrence Okolie (10-0, 7 KOs) seized the British title from Matty Askin (23-4-1, 15 KOs) with an untidy twelve round unanimous decision. Okolie had three points deducted, but still came away with a 116-110, 114-112, 114-113 verdict.
2016 Olympic silver medalist Shakhram Giyasov scored a fourth round KO over previously unbeaten Julio Laguna (14-1, 10 KOs) in a welterweight matchup.
