With the cut he suffered in an altercation with Canelo Alvarez still apparent, unbeaten IBF super middleweight world champion Caleb “Sweethands” Plant continued to declare his intention on becoming the first undisputed super middleweight world champion in boxing history as he nears his PPV showdown against WBC/WBO/WBA 168-pound champion Álvarez taking place November 6 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

“I don’t think I need to be any more motivated than I already am to fight for the undisputed super middleweight championship of the world. It’s a fight that we both obviously want to win. Maybe Canelo’s emotions boiled over at the press conference and I reacted. Those things happen,” said Plant.

CALEB PLANT

“I’m just staying relaxed and letting the process play itself out. We’ve got one half of camp done and a half camp to go. I’m ahead of schedule and my weight is good.

“I’m just staying zeroed in, locked in and focused. We’re just planning to finish out this camp the same way that I started it, and that’s at a high level.

“I’m feeling really good. Everything has been on point. I feel like I have all the skills in the world and a great team around me. When the bell rings, I’m just looking forward to showing the world what I can do.

“I believe that there are a handful of things that I am better than Canelo at in the ring. But the only way to find out is to tune-in on November 6. It’s not going to matter what I say right now, people aren’t going to believe me anyway. I’d rather show you than tell you.

“I’ve only had 21 fights as a professional, but a lot of those fights have been on the big stage. I’ve been fighting at a high-level for a long time and I’ve got a lot of experience under my belt. It’s all going to help me on fight night.

“I know that this is the biggest fight I’ve had so far in my career, and that’s the goal, to keep moving forward. I want each fight to be bigger than the last fight. This isn’t anything that I haven’t asked for. I want this and I feel like I’m prepared for it.

“Being undisputed will cement my name in the history books of boxing forever. That’s why I do this. That’s what I set out to accomplish when I first started boxing.”

JUSTIN GAMBER, Plant’s Co-Trainer

“Caleb will be 110% ready on November 6. Trust me when I say that there’s not a fighter on the face of the earth who doesn’t have weaknesses. Canelo is where he is because he’s earned his spot. He’s a great fighter, but he’s not a perfect fighter. He has weaknesses and we’re going to exploit them.

“I know that people are overlooking Caleb. That’s perfect for us. Caleb is just like me, because for our whole lives, when someone told us that we couldn’t do something, we love to prove them wrong. It just drives us even more.

“I was surprised by what happened at the press conference. If anything, it made it more personal. It’s always been important to beat him, but now there’s a little bit of an extra chip on my shoulder.”

  • I favor Canelo. Canelo is no joke, but if Plant can find a way to maintain his confidence (among other things) during rounds 1-6, maybe he can at least make it competitive for rounds 7-12 (if it gets that far).

I am looking forward to this fight to see how each fighter will make round by round adjustments, if needed.

  • I know many will disagree but I see Caleb putting a boxing clinic on flat footed canelo. Canelo has to knock him out to win. But Plant is too smart to stand and trade like BJ Saunders so canelo will have to cut off the ring. Keep peppering Canelo’s face with the jab, and move every time canelo steps with his lead foot to make him reset. If he does then I see this fight going the distance. But will the judges screw Plant? I think a lot of people will be surprised what Plant does to Canelo in this fight.

    • @SteveG I would agree that this will be no cakewalk for Canelo. Plant has the size and the style to cause problems for Canelo. The folks on here who are saying that Canelo can win this whenever he wants are greatly underestimating Plant IMO. Looking forward to this one…

      • Yea Canelo has power which i get, but he plods forward honestly. Watch his front foot, he won’t throw a punch until he plants that lead foot. so Plant needs to jab when Canelo steps forward, then move out the way when he plants it down to get leverage on his punches. BJ Saunders was picking him apart movement. Problem is BJ got over confident in that one. If he kept his lateral movement I am confident he could have won. I just don’t see Plant getting stupid or complacent so the onus will fall on Canelo to up the pressure and catch him.

    • Don’t say anything about canelo because let’s jus wait and see on nov 6 hahha

    • I agree. I think a lot of people are going to be shocked and how this fight plays out, and possibly the result. Canelo has an iron chin, so I’m not so sure Plant will knock him out….. but he certainly can outbox him.

      • …..and if you want to thrown down some money on an underdog that can actually pull off the upset, this is the first fight since Anthony Joshua/Andy Ruiz Jr. that I would be excited to bet on.

    • Yes, Canelo will capture his rhythm in the middle rounds and walk Plant down. I don’t think Plant has enough horsepower to keep Canelo off him. Not sure Plant can box and run all night once Canelo finds that opening to counter him. Canelo on a UD.

  • Plant will have a new nickname after November 6: Kodak. Why? Because the exposures will be on display for all to see. Canelo by dominant KO.

  • Sweethands? GTFOH. This guy tries so hard to look and act cool and that absolutely ridiculous nickname has got to be the most ridiculous corniest cheesiest name I’ve ever heard. I’m no cinnamon fan but I hope he kicks the royal crap out of this clown.

    • The nickname wasn’t made up my Plant, it was given to him by people who watched him fight, and it just stuck. If you’re going to hate the man, just hate him — without making up cheesy and asinine reasons for doing so.

  • Anything can happen. Canelo isn’t unbeatable. He’s lost a couple fights that he’s got the benefit of a very questionable decisions.

    • ETK, yes, he does.. and???? Yea the fight is gonna happen. Get over it. U sound like a bitter ex girlfriend always bring up old crap. Get over it my guy!

  • Some say this will be a hard fight for Canelo. Im going the other way and see him beating Plant down without any problems. Plant is a good boxer, but Canelo can box too. He has everything you want in a boxer. He goes to the head and body, he has stamina and a good chin. He also has good power. Mayweather was able to outbox Canelo, but thats Mayweathers thing. He can outbox anyone any day of the week. Plant is not close to that level and gets hit. I think after round one Canelo will have zero respect for plant. Not to mention I think Canelo has much faster reflexes than Plant. Again round one I think will go to Plant who will pot shot and run. Canelo will let him get away with it to just see what he is dealing with. I dont see this going more than four rounds. If it does Plants in for a long beating.
