Oscar: Canelo could be as great as Chavez Sr.

By Hesiquio Balderas

Oscar De La Hoya was sppearing on ESPN’s A Los Golpes show as a guest along with hosts Julio Cesar Chavez Sr, Bernardo Osuna and David Faitelson, Oscar talked about everything regarding the upcoming fight Canelo vs GGG 2.

This is what “The Golden Boy” said:

“Canelo, because of the rivalry and what has been said by GGG’s team, he can KO Golovkin. From the first round he (Canelo) has to work, he has to attack him, outbox him, make him miss and make him pay.”

“It doesn’t bother me that Golovkin keeps talking about the Clembuterol issue. I think is ridiculous at this point, he is even blaming me personally, that’s completely false. He feels the pressure. What I think must happen is that Canelo has to go out there from the first round and try to knock him out, that’s what the people want to see. Canelo coming out from the first bell and kayoing GGG to shut his mouth once and for all!”

“Canelo is a more complete fighter, he is more intelligent, he can adapt, he is a good technician. Golovkin just likes to come forward, trying to knock you out. We know what GGG can and will do and that’s it.”

“Canelo wasn’t running in the first fight. He had a good tactical strategy, he was boxing and trying to knock Golovkin out, running is different. Mayweather runs. Canelo made a good strategy. Look at the punches he landed on GGG in the first fight, they were bombs.”

“In this second fight the story will be different, Canelo gave Gennady a lot of respect in their first fight, now he knows that GGG hits hard but not hard enough to KO Canelo, he knows what to expect in this second meeting.”

“Canelo and GGG need each other, they’re the perfect dance partners, Saul to enhance his legacy needs to fight a few times with Golovkin, in Gennady’s case it’s the same thing. That’s what’s beautiful about boxing.”

“Canelo could one day be as great as Julio César Chávez Sr. Remember Canelo is very young. If he knocks out Golovkin or even if he fights Golovkin three, four or five times with good results, but I have to say it with respect, Chavez forever will be the greatest Mexican fighter ever!”
