Undefeated middleweight Jaime Munguia (38-0, 30 KOs) and D’Mitrus “Big Meech” Ballard (21-0-1, 13 KOs) hosted a fight week media workout Wednesday at Azteca San Diego Boxing Club to promote Saturday’s DAZN-streamed fight at the iconic Plaza Monumental de Playas in Tijuana.

Jaime Munguia: “I am very happy to fight in Tijuana, especially in the Plaza Monumental. As a boy I went to a show and it was always my dream to fight there. And now it has come true. You are going to see a great fight. Ballard is a fighter with very good technique, speed, but we prepared thoroughly to knock him out,”

D’Mitrus Ballard: “It’s what you have to do, go to the champion’s house to take away his title. On Saturday I take home the WBO middleweight intercontinental championship.”

  • munguia will be “champ” until someone lands that 4 punch combo that he loves to absorb, harder than before. He fights c guys and is a c fighter. Hopkins would have dusted him in 10. Hagler in two. Benn (Nigel)?…woah. How about Iran Barkley /Munguia. Pleeeeease, he is a hard puncher (kinda) who walks into shots. Nuff said.

    • Not sure why compare/match a C fighter to the past hall of famers but if they can continue to move Munguia this way they can bank off “The pride of Tijuana” and make war fights the casual fans like to see. I believe Ballard is a test for how Munguia might handle a more fast twitch opponent in the future. Munguia is strong but dont believe he is a hard puncher. He has to land a lot of shots for the KO.

    • I agree with you that his defense is really bad, but we hold Munguia to this high standard because of the record and the title he used to have. But he’s just 25 years old. He’s probably two or three years away from his prime. So he’ll have the opportunity to get better and then we’ll see what he really has

  • The newer version of Chavez jr. fighting nobodies/has beens until a mega payday against a name fighter to
make the promoter money and they’ll sacrifice the lamb to the lion and that’ll be the last we see of this C level fighter headlining fights. If he wants respect earn in taking meaningful fights until then I’ll pass on his fights.

  • All hall decent, good or outstanding potential need to be navigated properly. A human life in-ring deserves their grooming attention, education and patience. Yet, when all of you ‘talkers’ voted unHoly political figures in office and [ they ] naturally lied to you. You were officially punked and did nothing. When a fighter is being groomed you all turn the keyboard mileage.

  • I kind of agree with Nick, Munguia reminds me of a young Chavez Jr.. Hope he will stay focused and hope that he works on his defense..

  • “On Saturday I take home the WBO middleweight intercontinental championship” not sure if that title qualifies as an accomplishment.
