Both Anthony Joshua and Robert Helenius got into a bit of psychological warfare during today’s final face-off. Joshua seemed triggered by Helenius mean-mugging him and he tried to provoke Helenius. Tomorrow in the ring we might see who intimidated who.

Joshua: You good? Good yeah?
Helenius: Yeah.
Joshua: Yeah, looking at me like you’ve got a problem or something. You got a problem with me?
Helenius: No one has got a problem.
Joshua: Seriously, is everything alright though?
Helenius glares at him.
Joshua: You know all this shit here don’t matter, like. Either we’re gonna fight now or we’re gonna fight tomorrow, like. Either way we’re gonna fight.
Helenius: Yeah
Joshua: So all this shit…acting up here don’t really mean shit to me unless you want to fight me here now. You know what I’m trying to say? So stav calm and stay cool.
Helenius: I am cool.
Joshua: Good.

  • I’d have to see it and maybe hear it and everything that was going on behind them, but that sounds like AJ is a bit nervous. I’m sure they’re both nervous, they should be, but that’s a bit ridiculous.

      • Guy Smiley, I actually think you’re one of the card boys! I believe you probably have a little skimpy outfit you’ll be prancing around in between rounds…

        • Damn, you reminded of Peter on family guy when he sues his doctor after the exam. There’s a scene where he’s crying in the shower yelling at himself in the mirror. LOL!??

Copy this above into YouTube search bar and it will list the video with the dialogue and subtitles. Hope this works.

      • Well, now seeing it: There was nothing going on in the background. Looked like a basic, everyday, ridiculous (they’re all ridiculous imo) staredown and it was pretty much all in AJ’s head. Yeah, he seems really nervous.

        Thanks Henry.

    • YouTube just search Joshua and Helenius face off
IMO isn’t something staged, just nervousness

  • Nerves getting the better of AJ?!! Hope Derrick James doesn’t go 0-2 in such a short period!!

  • I have a feeling this isn’t going to end well for Joshua. Seems nervous and unsure.

  • The sign of a true warrior is remaining silent and let your hands do the talking.

    • As mentioned, I hope Deontay’s 1st round KO victim knocks out AJ tomorrow night. That would be great.

Besides, I would rather see Deontay fight Big Bang. That would be a more exciting fight.

AJ is a punk. He is a real candy ass punk.

    • Joshua is damaged goods. I truly believe the years in the ring have taken it’s toll. Hopefully not, but he’s reminding me of Jermain Taylor as he started to spiral.

  • It would be real funny if a man who got knocked out cold in round 1 by Deontay Wilder knocks out Anthony Joshua. That might happen. I hope it does.

    • Comedy. Based simply on the transcript, Helenius is the undisputed champion of pre-fight promos. The man is a genius with words.

    • I agree. AJ is behaving like a punk. I hope AJ gets knocked out, Whyte gets punished, and Joe Biden gets impeached. Give me a hat trick, God.

  • I didn’t see this, but maybe they told them to ham it up and sell more tickets.

  • AJ, actually did this same line of talking to Dominic breazale. Long ago. Before ruiz before he was truly rich.

  • I hate to say it but from purely a business POV Helenius is probably getting some extra cashola to hit the deck early.
Too much at stake for the Joshua management team. The UK fans can still be milked for a few more years for millions of quid

  • Holy smokes. I had wished for this matchup last week in the comments as a new opponent was being searched. So I’ll say it again, IF AJ wins big, a Wilder fight would then make some sort of sense if the marketing is right. At the very least, financially. Wilder will still clean AJ’s clock in less than 6 rounds.

However nice the payday would be for AJ and Wilder, I’m rooting for Robert in this fight.

    Prediction:

Helenius by comfortable sloppy decision in a hugfest, but gets robbed via majority decision for the above mentioned potential matchup.

    • Helenius is getting KO’d in 3. Stop with all this nonsense fightnews commenters, just stop.

  • Looking at previous fights where Helenius got stopped- Not good, he does not take a punch well, he gets caught and goes down and stays down. Hope he does not get caught early and gives a good account of himself.

  • I hope AJ loses by KO or TKO. I don’t like his attitude. I think it stinks.

  • AJ might be in for a surprise, Helenius might be a last minute replacement but they had been training and was active in a fight not too long ago, so he will be ready.
These fights always can throw a fighter off because their game plan might have to change but I also like these fight situations cause they are true tests to a pugil to see how quickly they can adapt to change

  • I hope this keys up both fighters a bit. A little more of a mean streak is exactly what they both need in the ring. I hope this is a fight where both of them can show some heart and as much as some bad intentions.

  • It’s a weigh-in for Pete sake, you’re supposed to glare at you’re opponent…
