Garcia Family honored in Mexico

By Gabriel F. Cordero

WBC lightweight champion Mikey Garcia, his trainer and brother Robert Garcia, and his father Eduardo all were presented with green and gold WBC champion’s belts by WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman at a well-known restaurant in the renowned and historic Plaza Garibaldi in Mexico City.

“Garcia is one of the best champions of all divisions, pound for pound right now,” said Sulaiman. “He has been a great example as a boxer inside and outside the ring. He has achieved a career of 39 undefeated fights, and he always represents his beloved Mexico. He still has a lot to give for world boxing and the fans are expecting the best of him in all his ring presentations.”

Mikey’s brother Robert, a former world champion himself, received one of the WBC’s new trainer belts. Father Eduardo Garcia received an honorary WBC belt in recognition of his great career as a trainer and for being the patriarch of one of the great boxing families.
