Eleider Alvarez returns as cruiserweight

Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM) held a virtual press conference this morning in Montreal to announce the next installment of the popular boxing series co-promoted by GYM and Probellum on Thursday May 5th at the Cabaret of Montréal Casino.

In the main event, former WBO light heavyweight champion Eleider “Storm” Alvarez (25-2, 13 KOs) will return to the ring for the first time in nearly two years but this time as a cruiserweight. He will fight in an 8-rounder against an opponent to be announced this week.

In other action, Canadian super lightweight prospects, Mazlum Akdeniz (16-0, 8 KOs) and Mathieu “G-Time” Germain (20-2-1, 9 KOs) will fight in separate showcase fights.

  • Sounds like somebody is out of shape, after 2 years off, and his handlers are trying to see how he looks at Cruiser in an 8 round fight.
    The lightweight prospects are featured in a showcase nobody will see.
    From the looks of it, there are less cab drivers around to choose for opponents. And the Uber drivers are harder to solicit to step in for these “showcases”.
    They may need to go to the actual supermarket to find the right tomato cans for these guys

  • I was sure he would retire after the Smith fight. Kovalev just moved up too, maybe Alvarez is chasing that trilogy.

  • If he wins I am sure the GYM promotion will match him against Rivas for his Bridgerweight title

    • Those 2 are good friends, it will be a sparring session if they fight. They left colombia together to live in montreal for boxing.
