IBF #3 cruiserweight Jai Opetaia (21-0, 17 KOs) will challenge IBF cruiserweight champion Maris Breidis (28-1, 20 KOs) on July 2nd at the Gold Coast Convention Centre in Broadbeach, Queensland, Australia, televised on Foxtel Main Event and Kayo Sports pay-per-view.
“We’ve been chasing these big fights for a long time now,” Opetaia said to news.com.au. “I just know I belong up there with the big boys. I know I can win this fight, my whole life has come towards this fight.”
Promoter is Dean Lonergan, matchmaker is Stuart Duncan.
Who?
I really don’t know what Opetaia’s done to get this fight. He’s never even challenged for the Commonwealth championship. Could be an early night!
Exactly. I don’t doubt the talent of Australian fighters, but outside of a few exceptions, most never really get out their comfort zones and fight experienced fighters from other countries. Opetaia’s wins have come against other inexperienced fighters. Unless Breidis ages overnight, or get caught by a lucky punch, I think this kid will get steamrolled.
Good luck Jai…you’ll need it in this fight
