Witherspoon got robbed as did Carl Williams in a later Holmes fight. Holmes told Don King “no more young lions” and King got Bob Lee and South Korea to start the IBF.
In his prime, you could put Holmes into any generation of heavyweights and he’d be dominant. Tougher than nails. Great skills. He was the man of his time, but a man out of his time. Between Ali and Tyson and holding down the fort. I called his first loss a draw, the rematch he definitely won. He went out on his shield with Tyson like the warrior he was. But he was way past his prime.
