Tszyu: Canelo is beatable

By Ray Wheatley – World of Boxing

WBO#1 light middleweight Tim Tszyu predicts WBC,WBA,WBO super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez will defeat IBF super middleweight champion Caleb Plant on Saturday in Las Vegas, but thinks the future Hall of Famer is beatable.

“Canelo does a lot of things very well but there is no such thing as a perfect boxer. He’s beatable and I’d love the opportunity to take a fight against someone like him,”  Tszyu told Fox Sports.

“I think Golovkin showed in their first fight that there is a way to beat him. I’d do to Canelo exactly what he does to other people – take the fight to him, find the shots to hurt him. Everybody can be hurt.

“I think Plant is trying to psyche himself up for the fight. He might look good for a couple of rounds – boxing well – but I think Canelo will catch up with him.”

Canelo: This fight more personal than GGG
Reynoso: Canelo will win by knockout

  • And Canelo would catch up with you Tszyu. Far too soon for you to be talking about Canelo even if it were just for a big payday.

  • I’m not understanding the headline, “…Canelo is beatable.” Floyd Money Mayweather beat him up, took him to school. Sooooo? Obviously he’s beatable. The question is, can fighters today be as great as Mayweather?

    • Yes he did. And not only did Maywether beat him, he made it look easy. There is one point in that fight where Canelo just stopped because he did not know what to do. Do not get me wrong, Canelo is a shoe in for the Hall of Fame, but he is not perfect and he is definitely beatable. Lucky for him, no current fighter is even remotely close to Floyd.

    • Mayweather wasnot a great figjter. He was just s cutie just like Willie Pep & Pernell Whitaker.

  • To defeat Canelo? Easy! First, you need a fast car, without plates, then a waterproof alibi … Sorry, kidding! Sometimes boxers show up where no threat is around. Is not that the case with Canelo? I understand roughly what is required but see no one today who has it.

  • Probably best to worry about beating a few decent names rather than making these type of comments. I remember Tszyu snr was unbeatable until he ran into a fellow called Vince Phillips

  • One thing we all know at this time…Tim Tsyzu is blowing smoke as he is pushing marketable material for himself to be exposed in the media with this statement. His opinion is no different than our opinion at this time.

  • typical of todays young fighters its called clout chasing i believe just another son of a former great trying to “talk” his way into a big payday nothing to see here fightnews should be ashamed for even printing this crap

  • Canelo lost his two biggest fights of his career. So he’s very beatable buts lets remember he generates alot of money for alot of people.
    He’s the face of boxing.

  • Good on Tszyu. Putting his name out there more and more. People complain if he fights bums, they complain if he goes for gold. He might just prick the pride of say Charlo who straight up said he won’t fight Tszyu, thinking Tszyu was now looking past him, and get that big fight he’s after. If he was meek, said nothing, chances are he wouldn’t get opportunities abroad and be fighting his whole career locally. He wasn’t disrespectful either, so give the bloke a chance ffs

  • Of course he’s beatable, everyone is beatable. The real question is, can tzyu beat him..

  • As an Aussie love Tim’s confidence but he has still got a really long way to go. He shouldn’t mention Canelo’s name who is a legend of the sport until he has at least won world title.

  • Of course he is beatable. Money Mayweather proved that back in 2013. He defeated him. EASILY!!!!!

  • Canelo looks easy to beat , until you’re in the ring and he’s beating on your liver with a sledgehammer, over and over.
