New opponent for Munguia

Middleweight contender D’Mitrius “Big Meech” Ballard (20-0-1, 13 KOs) will step in to face Jaime Munguia (36-0, 29 KOs) for the WBO Intercontinental title after Maciej Sulecki was forced to pull out of the fight due to an injury. The event will now take place on Friday, April 23 at The University of Texas at El Paso’s Don Haskins Center and will be streamed live on DAZN worldwide, excluding Mexico.

“D’Mitrius Ballard has been deserving of an opportunity like this for a while now,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy. “This is the chance to finally demonstrate to the world that he’s ready for the top guys in the division. We wish Maciej Sulecki a quick recovery, but we also we want to emphasize that Ballard is no mere replacement. He’s a real threat.”

  • Ballard is not really a dangerous opponent for Munguia, but has the style to last enough rounds to help Munguia to keep him sharp, ready for a fight against a top Middleweight.

  • Another cherry pick from Fishnet ODLH for Mungia. No real threat from Ballard just a stepping stone. Fishnet always avoiding the Big Boys. Eventually Mungia will have to face the real threats(BB) and the cash cow will derail and all sweet deals will vanish into despair.

    • Vicrose: not really a cherry pick when its this close to fight time brutha. Any descent skilled rising contender or star is not gonna risk their hard work to take a last minute mediocre deal without proper time to study their opponent. This is Ballards chance to step up and show he could be a force in the game

      • Its tough trying to educate casuals all the time. In this case, its just common sense you wont get the ‘pick of the litter’ for a short notice replacement.
