Loma-Kambosos talks advance

By Ray Wheatley – World of Boxing

Former world champion Vasiliy Lomachenko’s manager Egis Klimas is confident of his charge landing the fight against undisputed IBF, WBA, WBO and WBC franchise lightweight champion George “Ferocious” Kambosos in Australia. “I have a very good feeling that the fight is going to happen between Lomachenko and Kambosos,” Klimas told The 3 Knockdown Rule show. “We’re talking right now about a two-fight deal, including if Lomachenko wins, to do a rematch. I know some interest coming from the Australian government. We’ve been talking dates. I don’t know. Hard to say right now. End of May, June, somewhere in that area.

“Lomachenko is not just willing to go to Australia, he is willing to move there to do camp in Australia a couple of months before. That way we can guarantee the fight is happening [because] the country can be opened and then closed. Let’s say the fight is in May, in March Lomachenko will be in Australia to prepare for the fight. We don’t have any reason why not to go there, including the rematch.”

  • looks like Loma sees an easy target and will do anything to get the fight. I wasn’t a believer before but after the Teo fight go ferocious, go

    • I do not think “an easy target” is Loma’s main thinking. His reasoning’s that he wants to be undisputed and he’ll fight whoever has the belts. He is one of the few guys who does what he says he’d do.

  • This is a very interesting match-up of styles. On paper, it would seem Lomachenko wins fairly easy. But given the heart and determination George has, plus the fight being in Australia, it more than evens the odds. George has good footwork and variance on his punch trajectory. It will be very interesting to see how that matches up with Lomachenko’s agility, speed, and combinations. I can’t say I would be surprised if Lomachenko dominates, Kambosos wins a close decision, or a KO for either guy. Any of those scenarios are a firm possibility. I can also see a draw. Whoever wins will establish himself as the number one lightweight in the world.

  • I was fine with either Haney or Loma, Haney fell out, so if they get this one done, I’ll be completely happy. And happy bday Lomachenko, 34 today.

  • Kambosos will his moments because he’s tough, but this should be an easy unanimous decision for Loma.

  • Damn Loma is 34 already, at the lower weight classes that’s considered past prime. Loma better hurry up and fight as many of the top dogs out there (especially Kambosos, Haney and Davis) before father time sets in, which may be right around the corner for him.

  • Australia has gone mental. They will require Loma to be vaxxed to the gills. How a top athlete could even consider taking part in a clinical trial boggles my mind.
