Don King Productions won the bidding for the World Boxing Association (WBA) heavyweight championship bout between Trevor Bryan and Daniel Dubois. The auction took place on Monday via Zoom and the team representing Bryan, with Don King himself present at the purse bid, won the rights to promote the bout with a bid of three million one hundred and sixteen thousand and one dollars (US$3,116,001.00).
The winning promoter gave June 18 as the date for the fight, while as possible venues are London, South Florida, and New York.
The next bid came from Queensberry Promotions, which offered an amount of two million five hundred and three thousand dollars (US$2,503,000.00) and proposed to hold the fight in Derby, England on May 21 as the first option, Midlands, England on June 11 as the next alternative and another for June 18 in London.
Now, Don King Productions will have 20 days to send the contracts signed by both parties.
Hmm, no surprise on Don getting the bid. Don is looking for Bryan to seal the deal so he can cling to more money-making opportunities since his career is winding down. I got a feeling that Dubois better really look good against Bryan since Don is running the show on this one. You know, favoritism by the judges. You just never know. 🙂
Bryan’s already ahead 6 rounds on two of the scorecards. The third one has Bryan up 8.
Dubois scores a highlight reel ko to earn a split decision draw and become no 1. Mandatory challenger for a rematch with champ bryan.plus it was a t.k.o. as the champ didnt need oxygen or a stretcher to make his exit from the ring so don king said he can keep his belt and stays champ.
If the fight actually happens Dubios will need the usual 2 knockouts to get the draw.
Don King has no tv networks that will deal with him anymore. He would lose a fortune if he put this fight on. Its time the BA stop allowing him to play these games. He will NOT be promoting this fight. All the insiders know…… Just more of his delay games. Look what he did with Stiverne, he actually was able to get that fight sanctioned for the title. Then he gets a pass and puts Cusumano in for a title fight! Its a comedy and we should take this sport for real?
this is baaaaad
It’ll end up in South Florida, No one knows who these guys are, with the exception of Dubois.
If Don King wants to turn a profit on this one, he’d do well to head to the UK. British fans will support Dubois against an American opponent. Plus, most fans see Dubois as a credible guy that can go a long way. I don’t think anyone views Bryan as more than a paper champion.
Dubois is going to knock that fat slob out cold. It doesn’t matter who promotes the fight or where the fight is held. Bryan is one of the most laughable heavyweights of all time.
Don King won two purse bids previously (Bryan vs Charr) and found the way to not only avoid the commitment, but get Bryan elevated as a world champion. Charr is less dangerous opponent than Dubois (by a mile), so the question here is, are we gonna see this fight happens?
I had the same thought. Dubois will likely have “visa problems” a week before the fight. If the fight does happen, I’ll take Dubois inside of 4.
DK still doing his charity work.Should receive Nobel Peace prize.
There is 0 chance that DON KING DOES NOT DEFAULT ON THIS BID. He does this all the time. MARK THIS POST! The rules state if he does default, his champion will be stripped of his title. I doubt that will happen either.
Yeah, I’d agree this is a likely scenario. No network will pay much for this fight, so it isn’t going to be $3mm+. Had the UK guys got the fight, they might have turned a profit on it by staging the fight in the UKand making Dubois winning a “belt” the feature story.
I think Bryan needs to come in, at the highest, in the 240’s to have a chance here, but he won’t. He’ll be high 260’s like his last couple of fights and he’ll end up standing right in front of DD and he’ll get stopped in 4-5 rounds.
Curious, honest question not trolling, but do you really think Bryan has *any* chance even if he suddenly does find Jesus and get in shape? To me, this is just two fighters of completely different quality. Dubois is raw and we saw Joyce box his ears off, but Bryan sure isn’t Joyce.
On Bryan’s absolute best day I think he gives DD a good fight. I would not be completely shocked if he beat him, but I would not bet a dime on him and I would still pick Dubois. My point was that I don’t think that Bryan is even going to give himself that chance.
I think he paid 2 million too much
the fight isnt happening , its a game with King… He wil default
Serious question: on what planet does a promoter, Don King or anyone else, think that Trevor Bryan vs. Daniel DuBois is a sufficient draw to merit bidding $2.5+ million?
DuBois isn’t a big enough name to merit the kind of payday this represents (he may be, someday, but that day isn’t now), and King had trouble selling out a small venue in Warren, Ohio with Trevor Bryan. DuBois beats Bryan like a redheaded stepchild, but who in their right mind is going to pay to *see* that?
Dubois needs a ko, he’s already going to knock Bryan out..
IF this fight occurs…Danny Dubois will knock Trevor Bryant out WITHIN 3 rounds…IF this fight occurs.
