Former world featherweight champion Billy Dib spoke to Fightnews.com® about his showdown against WBO#5 lightweight Jacob Ng on Saturday and how a win will put him in a position to challenge undisputed IBF, WBA, WBO and WBC franchise champion George “Ferocious” Kambosos

“I had a fantastic camp, I did everything in my power to make sure I left no stone unturned,” said Dib. “Injury-free. I put in some great work with my trainer Billy Hussein. I had some fantastic sparring with Manuer Matet and other tall boxers including my brother Yousef (who holds an amateur victory over Conor Benn). I sparred one hundred and six rounds in total. I have lived clean and healthy for the last fourteen weeks which has made making weight so easy. I woke up this morning (Friday) and I am only 600 grams over the weight.

“I don’t think Jacob Ng brings anything to the ring that will give me problems. I have fought tall guys in the past Zolani Marali and Davey Browne as professionals and Ryan Langham in the amateurs. I had nothing but success with tall fighters. I feel that Jacob doesn’t use his attributes. He has got a long reach and good height but he doesn’t use them as he is always caught up in a brawl.I am going to make it hard for him by boxing on the outside and boxing clever.

“At the press conference yesterday Jacob was out of his depth. I have seen the best in press conferences including Shane Mosley and Bernard Hopkins and I just follow suit. Jacob was completely rattled and had no idea. He looked really nervous. This is a big occasion for him. He is the star. He is the favorite. The pressure is all on him. I know he is young and hungry but he is just a kid. I have been in there with some of the best fighters in the world. My experience will come through on fight night. I am going to box an absolute clinic. I cannot see Ng lasting ten rounds.

“Angelo DiCarlo has done a wonderful job in building up Jacob Ng but in the fifteen fights he has had, he hasn’t faced anyone like Billy Dib.

“After I beat Ng I am going to put myself in the running in the lightweight division with fights against Devin Haney, Vasiliy Lomanchenko, and Gervonta Davis. I want to put myself in the mix with those guys which will put me in a position to get a shot at George Kambosos. George is the kingpin of the division. I sparred George many years ago when he was an amateur and I was world champion. He was talented and had good speed. George was a young hungry lion – an up-and-comer. It was four or five good rounds. It was good work. The fight with Jacob Ng paves the way for an all Australian showdown between me and George. He keeps saying he wants a big stadium fight. There is no better way to do it than BILLY DIB V GEORGE KAMBOSOS.”

  • I was curious and you probably were to – according to Boxrec, that’s a four inch height difference.

  • Billy Dib ain’t doing squat! He was totally overhyped in his prime so imagine what he can’t do now

  • Is laughable, but in Australia everything is possible. If they have the nerve to stage Jeff Fenech vs Azumah Nelson rematch 16 years later when both were long time retired or the ultra shot Anthony Mundine vs Michael Zerafa and so on, what out of the ordinary could be the at least 10 years past his prime Billy Dib against George Kambosos?

    • You probably love watching the Triller circus and are a paul bros fan boy but have the audacity to bag Australia

  • Barucho – sitting on your fat as* chomping down burritos. Don’t bag Australia from the lounge.
