Charr fails drug test, Oquendo fight off

The world title clash between WBA heavyweight champion Manuel Charr and Fres Oquendo scheduled for September 29 in Cologne, Germany, is off after Charr tested positive for two banned substances.

Official Statement from Manuel Charr…

Dear Boxing Fans, here is my statement on the doping test:

Tonight the message came that I tested positive. My manager Christian Jäger and my promoter Bernd Trendelkamp canceled the fight without informing me or contacting me. I am very disappointed in this approach.

I can’t explain the result, but I will do anything to resolve it. I’m now waiting for the result of the B Sample as I have once again undergone independent and voluntary doping testing. The results are expected to be published on Saturday, 9/22/18.

I have always been clean in all my fights, and I definitely can’t explain how this result occurred. I’m shocked myself, dear fans, especially as I’m in the final stage of the fight preparation.

The defense of the championship has been my life for months. I prepared for this fight with great discipline and great physical conditioning. During my fight preparations, I’ve taken various food supplements. It will have to be examined whether the supplements may have influenced the doping sample.

I’m working intensely to resolve the result of the doping test and the background behind it and to defend my world championship. I won’t give up and will keep you posted.

Yours,
Manuel Charr
