Mexican star Saul ¨Canelo¨ Alvarez has received his WBC middleweight world championship belt on Monday at the Sumaya Museum in Mexico City in a historic event in the presence of national and international press.
Billionaire businessman Carlos Slim, an enthusiastic supporter of boxing, had the honor of presenting Canelo’s belts, which he won September 15 against Gennady Golovkin in Las Vegas.
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said “It is a special moment to be able to deliver these world championships to Canelo Alvarez after that sensational victory against Golovkin on the Mexican independence holiday on September 15. He represents the triumph of Mexico and at the same time the projection of boxing in the main sports venues of the world.” ¨
Along with Canelo were his trainers Jose and Chepo Reynoso in addition to Golden Boy Promotions President Eric Gomez and Golden Boy PR ace Ramiro Gonzalez.
