Former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has reportedly confirmed he will “definitely” exercise his rematch clause for a second rematch with WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. The Bronze Bomber also blamed the heavy 40+ pound outfit he wore during his lengthy ringwalk for taking away his legs during his loss to Fury.

IBF #15-ranked Otto Wallin (20-1, 13 KOs), who chopped up Fury to the tune of 47 stitches last September, says he wants another shot at The Gypsy King. “I want a rematch and this time I will finish what I started,” proclaimed Wallin who lost by unanimous decision to Fury in that fight.

Las Vegas sportsbooks cleaned up with Fury’s win. According to lvrj.com, MGM Resorts had one of its biggest boxing wins of the past decade, as did the Mirage whose sportsbook director Jeff Stoneback told the paper “We took two bets to win $100,000 on Wilder and lots of five-figure bets. The public was all in on Wilder.”

  • This is one of the worst exuses ever.In rematch Wilder will only have a punchers chance. He is cashing out.

    • In addition to this boxing buzz, Sergey Kovalev was arrested for DUI in California. This incident is another stacked up problem on top of Kovalev’s impending assault charge/court proceedings (from 2018) coming up in April 8th this year. Very sad.

      • Sad to hear this. Many boxers struggle with normal social behavior, life. Not acceptable at all, but the brutal sport they participate in will influence this unfortunately. A topic on its own this.

      • Glad you mentioned it. Because the same report mentioned Tank Davis snatching his lady up, just over a week ago. But didnt seem fit to mention Kovalev legal issues.

    • Fingerbang, you act like he had more than a puncher’s chance in the other fights. I expected his punch to land too, because it always had before. It can still land, especially, if Fury loses any focus.

As for the excuse, it is super lame. However, it’s also super necessary. He has to fool himself to get his confidence back up. Who knows, maybe it’ll work. I tend to favor Fury this time around, but you always have to watch a guy like him for problems.

  • Bullshit! Wilder been running around with his “I promise you I’m going to knock you out put you in a body bag” bla bla bla.. despite the ignorant critics who jumped all over Mark Breland for stopping the fight, no doubt in my mind Breland saved Wilder himself from going out in a body bag! Breland is a former champion who knows what he’s doing and he definitely saved Wilder from what could have been another tragedy! Great job and major props to Breland!

    • Im a wilder fan and Sadly, i agree. Lame excuse. Wilder Simply does not improve!! Relies on that right hand way too much. He needs to watch rocky three and go hang out with an apollo creed type(lewis, byrd, Hopkins) to school his ass!! Get that rhythm and groove. Learn to be slick. Then come back!!! In the meantime, Fury needs to get that final belt from that fraud AJ. Easy pickings!!!

    • Wilder can gain one thing from a third fight; a paycheck. He can make $millions on another defeat if need be. Sad, but true.

    • I wonder how much shine is off AJ. He did what he had to do against Ruiz, but it was a really boring fight. Part of me wants Fury to fight him to get him out of the conversation.

With that said, he’s got a punching bag in front of him next in Pulev, so maybe he can redeem himself. The Fury vs Wilder fight is summer, so maybe we can get the winner vs AJ by December. (Notice, I didn’t say Fury vs AJ. Wilder’s next step is to blame the one shot to the ear and from that his journey back to a puncher could be complete. He’ll always have that shot.)

    • joshua is a dangerous fighter I dont think Fury has a punchers chance thats why his father wants him to retire or fury will get a beating of his lifetime!!

  • Mr Wallin, you fought a different Tyson Fury then, and this is now!
    He will eat you alive.
Unification of belts should be the one objective , and its doable. The trilogy between Fury n Wilder can wait.
AJ v The Gypsy King…bring it on !!!!

  • Silly. Give Wilder another week, it will sink in. Styles make fights, especially with heavys. Wilders pride will get him stopped early. He is basically still a amateur. This fight took his Quan..

  • The sad thing is-there’s probably some validity to his excuse. That being the case, he’s just stupid! These are the things one has to consider before choosing to wear a ridiculous outfit into the ring! And I thought that Parella guy was outta control for wearing a suit top into the ring last week! Did anyone notice how they struggled trying to get that thing off? As far as Wilder, stupid constume certainly didn’t help him any, but he would have received the same , thorough ass wuppin’ regardless of what he wore into the ring!

    • Anymore, some of the antics these fighters do for ringside entrances is nothing more than a circus show. Don’t get me wrong, it’s neat to watch at times, but really not needed. Prince Nazeem was another eccentric ring circus entertainer if you will. When he fought Kevin Kelley back in the heyday, Nazeem wasted so much time getting to the ring with all his charades, they placed a time limit on ring entrances after that.

  • It was more fury weight on wilder shoulders that weight him down and took out his legs pulling straight back head in the air trying to step back and counter but got smothered those where the extra 40 pounds that took the legs cause I remember using weight vest and after I would feel lighter on my feet but I guess everyone is different

    • Peanut, I think you mean Fury’s weight on Wilder’s neck. They turned a boxer into a full on fighter and while it worked, a good corner will surely point out the dirty tactics prior to any match. Even the knockdown shot that appeared to do the real damage was very close to a rabbit punch. It was definitely on the back side of the ear.

Hey, protect yourself at all times as they say, but if I were Wilder’s corner I’d be really dissecting and pointing out all of the dirty tactics. If the referee is threatening or taking points, then the 3rd fight could be different. Additionally, it might give Wilder more reason to believe he still can win against Fury.

      • Fury was aiming for the back of the head all the time. The knockdown shot was on the back of the ear yes, clear to see in the replay. Action replay should be used in boxing and stop these dangerous punches.

  • The die has been cast. It does not matter if DW takes 6 or 9 months until the rematch, I believe the same results will happen. Tyson has the better boxing IQ, the ability to box in multiple directions and the proven power to put Wilder on his ass more than once. An out of shape Fury gets dropped twice, but still out boxed Wilder “at least” 11 of the 12 rounds in the first fight. The second time around Fury had all the answers to Wilder like an open book test with answers highlighted. Wilder will not learn what he needs in 6-9 months to beat the present Tyson Fury. Wilder’s KO power is generated by moving forward and I believe he will be forced into reverse again if there is a number 3. On a side note, yeah maybe the 40lbs costume and extra 10lbs of your own was not benifical to you, but you lost the fight because you could not adapt to what was infront of you, and shit talking and a powerful right hand just won’t get it done. Tyson Fury is no Andy Ruiz, I don’t see a second fall from grace. I know styles make fights, but Joshua is not that good fighting on the back up, he is a better boxer than Wilder, but his new Klitschko style didn’t work for the originator when he used it on Fury. Fury can make unheard of $$$ in his next 3 fights, 2 Joshua’s and a third Wilder fight, then he can retire with a well cleaned house.

    • That’s what it comes down to. “A better boxing IQ.” He just has so many more skills and a much higher level of boxing intelligence. Deontay, if you listen to him talk, is not a smart guy, and he never had to develop a boxing IQ because he’s always relied on power. That’s not good enough at the highest level of boxing.

  • Wilder fan boys must be cringing reading this. The whole fact he lost had nothing to do with the fact tyson bashed him up it was because his shorts were to heavy,

  • I don’t think Joshua deserves it. He avoided Wilder and let Fury clear the way for him.

  • This is one of the most bizarre excuses I ever heard. Might have some truth underneath, but just to justify how easy he was defeated. He would eventually have been defeated anyway, having no wearing this outfit by the Tyson Fury he met, maybe a little more competitive, but no more than that. Next time he should carry Jarrell Miller on his shoulder to have a better excuse, because Fury will do the same on him if they fight one more time regardless if he walks naked to the ring

  • A. That’s the lamest excuse I’ve heard in a while. B. Your dumbass chose to walk to the ring in a 40 lb suit. That was such a drubbing I honestly have no interest in a rematch.

  • What a bum. He lost and he blames. He should blame his corner and himself for not knowing how to box or knowing how to adjust in the ring. In the rematch he will have another clown outfit on again. He’s 35 now, the power he has will not have the same effect on younger fighters.

  • Easy for Wilder to beat Fury – Just wear that 40 lb suit for the next 6 months to get those legs trained. Jokes aside, I don’t know how he had got this far in the sport with his spindly legs.

  • I’m a big Deontay Wilder fan and would root for him against any other fighter except for Fury, who I’ve been following longer, since Tyson first turned pro. While I know fighters, just like most elite athletes, hate to admit defeat, Deontay’s excuse of his heavy ring walk costume taking his legs from him before the fight even began, is ridiculous. Deontay Wilder’s great right-hand can get him out of trouble, but it is his delusional thinking that just might get him into more trouble than he knows. Come on, Deontay… continue to be a champion in spirit and admit you were defeated by the better man on the night. Please stop with the lame excuses.

  • I hope Wilder is OK after that beatdown. Blaming his costume doesn’t sound right… that is some mental stuff going on

  • Lame! Read an article on ESPN that mentioned he was also blaming Kenny Bayless for letting Fury manhandle him and not protecting him better. Excuses, excuses…..What a fall from grace.

  • Man….what a whiner. This guy should take a page from AJ’s book….no excuses and move forward. I’m sure Wilder has lost many fans over the past few days.

  • This may be Deontay’s final fight because Tyson Fury will give him another heavyweight beating that will most likely affect his decisions in the future.

  • I guess he should’ve included rehearsing with a 40lb costume during training camp. Right at the beginning before starting training so he could get used to it.

  • The worst beating of his career obviously didn’t do anything for his humility. Never heard such an absurd excuse. Fury executed a perfect plan and Wilder was never in the fight. You could see defeat on his face by the third round. Breland probably saved him from permanent brain damage. He should thank Breland and acknowledge Fury was just the better fighter that night.

    • After his loss to Lamon Brewster, Wladimer Klitsko blaimed his trainer for spreading Vaseline all over his body, clogging his pores, and not alowing him to sweat, hence causing him to over heat and melt down. Good one Einstein!

  • Wilder should look at the extra weight he was carrying and overconfidence if he needs excuses. Frankly, I’d prefer to see Fury vs Joshua with Wilder reworking his game, taking an interim fight, and then maybe the third fight.

  • I don’t give a shit about a third fight a not well prepared Fury beat Wilder in the first fight.. Fury is 2-0 against Wilder in 2 fights not revelant to do it a third times. Wilder should recover first, train hard, improve if he can and take 2 Charles Martin type of opponents to climb on the top again… Then we will see…

  • well, it is a way to sell a third fight. Sadly this will be more of wanting to see Fury obliterate Wilder. If Wilder had gotten knocked down in the first 40 seconds of the third round, and to during the last 40 seconds, he would have been stopped there. Wilder should also really thank Breland, as it allows him that third fight and some extra cash. Brendan correctly thought that Wilder might be seriously hurt later, and maybe there would be no opportunity for a third fight. His trainer Deas, at the post fight press conference looked very irresponsible to me, and why did no one show any concern about this costume? Let Wilder get his third fight, he is a winner hopefully financially, or maybe being able to prove something.

  • Would it be fair to say that if wilder doe’s exercise the rematch clause , he has a death wish ??

  • That was a good ole fashioned beat down Skill V/S Will and Skill won. I like Wilder seems like a great guy, but the bombs from the third row aint gonna cut it at the elite level.
