After 16 consecutive first round KOs, followed by five consecutive decision wins, unbeaten IBF #5, WBO #5, WBA #8, WBC #11 super middleweight Edgar Berlanga (21-0, 16 KOs) believes he’s ready to get another KO when he faces WBA #3- rated Padraig McCrory (18-0, 9 KOs) at Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida, next Saturday on DAZN.

“The twelfth round of my last fight [against Jason Quigley], I feel like that’s really woken me up,” said Berlanga. “I haven’t missed anything, I know I have got the power to hurt anybody, and I feel different as a fighter, mentally, physically and spiritually. I know that there’s going to be fireworks coming from me on February 24, that’s a fact. I’m coming for the KO. He can say whatever he wants, but at the end of the day we have to go in there and tussle.

“Me at my best, nobody is f**king with me. When I am 100 percent, which you’ll see on February 24, I am unstoppable.

“I’ve sacrificed a lot, changing my environment, coming to the suburbs and being fully locked in on myself and my craft. I’ve refocused on the small details of my style to bring the best out of me. So, from all that right there, it’s going to be something amazing.

“There is jealousy. I’m here in Tampa now and there’s a lot of people out there that were acting like they were my friends, and they weren’t. People that were close to me that were envying me, so I got rid of all those people and I’m just focused on myself and my team, and I feel that with God with me, the sky is the limit and there’s nothing stopping me.

“I’ll be one of the best 168lb fighters in the world. I think that after this fight my name is going to be buzzing again, and people will be talking about me and Canelo in September or Jaime Munguia. I feel those fights are there to be made and it’s time to go capture a belt.

“I’m not the guy that fought Jason, and he’s going to see that. I’m getting better and better. I was four years away from Marc before that fight and I went through a lot of injuries in that camp.

“I’m on a different level now physically. I’m sparring 15, 16 rounds with three or four different guys, and I didn’t get a chance to do that in my last camp with the injuries and coming back to camp overweight with the lay-off and not having a promoter, going through some depression in New York. We brought in ‘Memo’ who every knows has worked with the best, and we know we can go 12 strong rounds and go at it hard, and I know that if I do that, no one can stand a chance with me.”

  • Ehh…I don’t know, Edgar. It’s good to be confident, but “no one can stand a chance” with you, when you’re training the right way? Time to step up and the show the doubters. Munguia would be a perfect test or even somebody like Dirrell or Derevyanchencko.

  • Berlanga is just a joke! I wouldn’t be surpriced if he loses his next fight! He strugles against journeyman so, he is not even ready for a top 10 dude in the division! He’s another bobo andrade type boxer, once he faces real competition, its over!

  • His people did a good job bringing him up the ranks, padding his record with knockouts but that did little for his development. McCrory is no world beater and appears to have little power. So, other than being undefeated, is he really gonna answer questions about Berlanga? Does beating McCrory merit a shot at Canelo? Munguia v Berlanga should be next.

  • Whoa Tigre…comparing Demetrius Andrade and Berlanga is like comparing Patrick Beverly to Steph Curry. Andrade dominated most of his lesser foes, was a former world champ in two weight divisions, an Olympian, and at 35 got a shot at the much larger Benavidez and got stopped, after boxing well for the first few rounds, no shame in that. Andrade beats Berlanga, hands down!

    • Morrell would beat Berlanga EASILY. I would like to see Berlanga versus Munguua but TBH Munguia already beat Deverynchenko and Ryder. Berlanga would be a soft touch for Munguia.

Berlanga needs to blast McCrory out of there in a blowout over the course or 2 or 3 rounds in order to remain relevant.

  • Berlanga doesn’t have to knock this guy out, but he has to look good and dominant if he still wants to be considered a factor in the Supermiddles. He needs to forget about going for the KO, his streak is yesterdays news. He obviously is blessed with power and the KO’s will come, but he’s like a homerun hitter who’s always swinging for the fences and gets upset if he gets a single or a double. (or striking out) Prove to the world you could box. Outbox this guy, either by KO or decision, then step it up. There’s lots of hot fighters in this division. Prove you’re on of them.

  • Good for him. Our surroundings can and usually are our downfall if we don’t remove ourselves. A new location can give you the mental clarity and focus to take your life to the next level. Keep the camp as small as possible and lock yourself up until fight night. Everyone else besides your wife and kids(if you have them) can go kick rocks.

As far as ready for the top, let’s go 2 more fights at a higher level and go from there. There’s a few things that need tweaking first.

  • Berlanga vs darvachenco! if he passes the test then, he earns a spot in the rankings to fight top dogs! Munguia got banged up hard in that fight but, was able to take the punishment and won a very, very close decision that could have gone either way! Berlanga needs a tough opponnent to prove himself before he can fight top dogs!

  • Wow I only see haters talking bad about berlanga he is the monster!! He is a prospect if u know about boxing u go little by little and getting better! For sher he will give u a good fight don’t forget that name berlangaaa!! Talking all that bla bla bla!
