Babic vows to destroy Bennett

Entertaining heavyweight KO artist Alen “The Savage” Babic (7-0, 7 KOs) is back in action Saturday against Mark “Bad News” Bennett (7-1, 1 KO) in a scheduled eight rounder on the Galahad-Dickens undercard in Brentwood, Essex, live worldwide on DAZN.

“I don’t know who that Bennett guy is, I really don’t,” said Babic. “They told me he’s big. That’s all I need to know – another giant to slay. I hear he has six or seven victories but zero knockouts, or one knockout. How can you get into the ring with ‘The Savage’ with a record like that?

“Seven knockouts in seven fights, all lasting three rounds maximum, you’re not going to see anything different. Mark Bennett is going to feel ‘The Savage.’ I already know he fears ‘The Savage.’ When he looks me in the eyes, he will know that he’s in a real fight. I don’t come to box. I know how to box. I don’t need to box – I destroy people.”

  • Babic is fun to watch, but has weighed between 205-210 in his last few fights. He might be better off losing a few pounds and campaigning at Cruiserweight.

    • Lol you do realize Deontay Wilder for the most part weighs around the same weight. Should Wilder lose weight and fight at cruiserweight? Just because most heavyweights are out of shape now doesn’t mean being fat is better.

      • Wilder is 6’7″ and has freakish power, which makes him a bit different than Babic. Plus, at Wilder’s height he’s probably not making Cruiserweight without draining the shyt out of himself.. He was a rather solid looking 231 in the Fury rematch, but he was in fact as low as 207 in his career.

When was the last Heavyweight Champion in the 6′ range and below 210? There’s a reason the Bridgerweight idea is being kicked around. Babic looks like he could easily make Cruiser, but whatever floats his boat. Not saying a guy of his physical stature can’t get it done at Heavyweight. Looking at Andy Ruiz, there’s probably a Light Heavyweight under there somewhere, and he managed to win a belt. Just my opinion, Cruiser looks like a better fit for Babic.

      • Nobody much cares about cruiserweights-they are really heavyweights anyway.

        • “Nobody much cares about cruiserweights”

Good point. I’d venture to say that even fringe contenders at Heavyweight probably make at least as much money as your average Cruiserweight Champion.

          “they are really heavyweights anyway.”

We’ll have to agree to disagree on this. This may have been true 50 or 60 years ago, but Cruiser was necessary when it was formed in the 80’s, and is even more of a necessity now, at least in my opinion. I can’t speak for anybody else, but if you’re clamoring for a Ilunga Makabu-Tyson Fury fight, I’m guessing you’d be in the minority. Makabu-Dorticos, yes. Babic would make an interesting Bridgerweight, but I’m guessing the odds of him rising to the top of the Heavyweight division are a bit long. It would probably be a tall task for him to even get by Coffie. Time will tell though.

          • He’s about the same size as Mike Tyson, so he’s big enough if he’s got the goods.

Or do you think the clumsy, limited guys at the top of the HW division now would have been too big for Tyson? Or Ali?

          • @DaveF Tyson or Ali would have done well, but those types are rare. You’re naming one guy who’s considered the greatest ever Heavyweight by many, and another who’s probably 10-15 all time. So, if you’re argument is, “well, Tyson and Ali could have competed”, not sure that’s enough of an argument. In the last 20-30 years, you had guys like Roy Jones, David Haye, and Chris Byrd win A belt, but none of those guys were going to beat Lewis….and that’s not because of a lack of skill.

Bridgerweight may or may not ever catch on….doesn’t really matter to me if it does or not, but I can definitely see the argument in favor of it. Seeing Wladimir Klitschko in the ring with Byrd, Mormeck, Castillo, Chambers, Etc seemed an unfair advantage. Yes, some smaller guy with rare talent may have beaten Klitschko, but Bridgerweight generally makes things a little more competitive for the 200-220 crowd.

  • I like this guy a lot. He’s managed by Dillian Whyte. He possibly is too small for the division but he’s done well so far.
The UK fight fans and media have taken to him.

He is crude and may well get beat at a level or 2 up but he’s fun to watch both in the ring and in interviews.

  • Babic is the man!! He’d be great as a pro wrestler. He knows how to entertain.

  • I never understand why some people lie to themselves and say one fighter is arrogant for trash talk and another is entertaining for trash talk. I haven’t seen his opponent fight but I do kinda wonder why he has 1 KO if he is a big prospect.
