17-year-old Top Rank welterweight phenom Xánder Zayas (3-0, 2 KOs) makes his Puerto Rico debut this Friday on a PR Best Boxing Promotions card at the Rubén Zayas Montañez Coliseum in Trujillo Alto. Zayas will face Marklin Bailey, who most recently suffered his fifth straight loss against another 17-year-old welterweight, Vito Mielnicki Jr.
“(This fight) It is super important because there are people who think I was born in the United States and it is not like that, I was born and raised in Puerto Rico until I was 11. It is important for me that people know that I will do my best and work hard and focused on achieving my goals so that they feel proud of me,” Zayas said during a media workout at the Félix Pagán Pintor Gym run by former two-weight world champion Ivan “Iron Boy” Calderón.
This would be a good return to the ring fight for Wilder when Wilder gets out of the hospital.
