Featherweights Michael “Mick” Conlan (16-1, 8 KOs) and Miguel Marriaga (30-5, 26 KOs) faced off at the final press conference for Saturday’s showdown at the SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The bout will air on ESPN+ in the US. and Fite.tv in the UK.
Michael Conlan: “I want to get back in the world title mix as soon as I possibly can, and I thought Miguel Marriaga would be the perfect kind of guy, perfect statement to make that…I believe for me to get back {to title contention}, I didn’t need anybody easy. I wanted someone hard and an opponent who’s going to push me. And I believe Miguel is.”
Miguel Marriaga: “Michael Conlan is an excellent boxer. I’ve also come well-prepared to make an excellent fight. Obviously, the idea is to come here and win the fight, which is the most important thing.”
This is an interesting match. I think Conlan’s people should have been more careful considering his last fight which is not that long ago. He may win as I believe Marriaga is up there and does not seem to win at this level…but that last fight for Conlan was scary. This guy is a puncher. May the best man win in a good fight and hope they both come out ok.
I agree with you. To go in with a heavy hitter after a knockout loss takes a gutty fighter. Maybe the Mick is also out to prove something to his Team and himself.
