WBA orders Bakole-Chaney

The WBA hampionships Committee has ordered an eliminator between #1 heavyweight Martin Bakole and highest available contender Cassius Chaney, who is sitting at WBA #7. The formal communication has been to both fighters’ teams, giving them 30 days to sign the bout contract and fight for the opportunity to become the next mandatory WBA challenger.

In the event that the parties do not reach an agreement, or either party refuses to sign the contract, the Championship Committee may open the fight to purse bid with a 50% purse split.

  • So, who does the guy who wins earn a title shot with? Manuel Charr? The WBA is such a freaking mess.

    • Well, first Charr has to get by Pulev in that hotly anticipated match between those two chiseled barbarians.

      • Indeed. Whoever wins this matchup of two such young warriors figures to have a very long and active reign as champion.

        • Won’t be easy to get inside Pulev’s damn near impenetrable jab, but if anybody can do it, it’s Manual Charr.

Actually, Charr-Guidry would have been more interesting IMO. I think they would be pretty evenly matched, and it may very well result in the spectacle of Jonathan Guidry being crowned Heavyweight Champion. I know people would poke fun at it, but I’d actually be genuinely interested in how that one might turn out.

          • Crowing Guidry as champion would be hilarious, and would solidify the WBA as the jokiest joke boxing commission. I’d almost respect the WBA going full farce. If WWE can have comedy wrestlers, why can’t boxing have a comedy sanctioning body?

          • The WBA has been exactly that for a few years. Crowning interim champions when the world champion is perfectly healthy and active; allowing champs to go years and years without fighting, Leo Santa Cruz abandoned featherweight but got to keep his title there for years and, once upon a time, they had five guys walking around calling themselves WBA heavyweight champion. Comedic genius.

          • Let’s not forget that Heavyweight Championship fight between Manual Charr and Christopher Lovejoy. Lovejoy had exactly one win over an opponent with a winning record at that point (that’s still the case), and that was enough for the WBA to give him a shot at their title. Charr’s failed post-fight cartwheel attempt was the cherry on top.

Then, there was this generation’s version of Ali-Frazier, and you know what I’m talking about….Trevor Bryan-Bermane Stiverne of course. Stiverne, who hadn’t won in 5-plus years, gets a shot at Heavyweight Champion extraordinaire, Trevor Bryan.
That was brought to us by the WBA as well. Was about to ask how Charr had a belt in addition to Bryan back then, but, I guess I don’t need an explanation. It’s the WBA. Comedic genius indeed.

“I’d almost respect the WBA going full farce.”

LoL! Man, I know exactly what you mean.

          • Funny you said that… that was the line in my head. I just didn’t want to use that particular word.

  • Balole just really needs to keep in shape, he has the size, is fast and is a powerful fighter, could be a threat to any top heavyweight. In a way think of him like a younger Zhang. Even if he had an injury there is no reason to balloon up ridiculously in weight like he did to 299½ in his last fight.

  • Am I the only one that thinks this is a great fight? This is a match between 2 rising heavyweights. This is why a sanctioning body is important, that are telling these guys that fighting the local barber isn’t going to cut it anymore (pun intended). Fight another guy on your level and bigger things will come. I haven’t seen much from Chaney, highlights really, but he has a few nice names on his record. Bakole is a fun fighter to watch.

  • Bakolie is a solid fighter, but he is obviously lacking in discipline. It is funny, every match in his last 5 fights he gets fatter, meanwhile his trainer, who used to be just as fat, is getting smaller. I seriously doubt Bakolie does any roadwork. The guy looks like a sumo wrestler,
