Night of Knockouts in Puerto Rico

By Robert Coster

It was a night of knockouts in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, on a boxing gala promoted by Fresh Productions. The main event bout for the vacant WBC Fecarbox lightweight title saw Fajardo-based Dominican Alfredo “Ojo” Santiago (10-0, 3 KOs) turn the tables on Argentinian puncher Cristian Mino (19-2, 17 KOs) via a fourth round TKO.

Also junior welterweight Subriel Matias (11-0, 11 KOs) again demonstrated his numbing power with a fourth round stoppage of Colombian veteran Breidis Prescott (31-14, 22 KOs). Prescott was sent twice to the canvas before calling it quits.

Other results:

In a battle jr featherweight prospects, Abimael Ortiz (6-0-1, 4 KOs) scored a fifth round TKO over Olympian Jantony Ortiz (8-1, 4 KOs), and up-and-coming jr welterweight Jovanie Santiago (11-0-1, 8 KOs) stopped Colombian Andres Figueroa (9-3, 5 KOs) in the fifth round.

Six more fights were offered in the action-packed card that drew a good crowd to the Tomas Dones Coliseum.
