On August 11 at the majestic Arena Mexico City, two legendary female champions will take on separate opponents with the goal of facing each other at the end of October. Leading Mexican promotional rivals Zanfer Promotions and Promociones del Pueblo have combined forces and announced a fight card featuring Jackie “Princess Azteca” Nava and Mariana “Barby” Juarez, who would then meet in an ultimate showdown should they emerge victorious.
Nava (33-4-3, 14 KOs) has not been in the ring for a professional fight since February 2017, when he defeated Venezuelan Ana María Lozano, while Juarez (49-9-4, 18 KOs) defeated Carolina Arias last April to made the fourth defense of her WBC bantamweight championship.
“The Princess Azteca” Nava will face in her return to boxing the former Venezuelan world champion Alys Sanchez (15-4-1, 4 KOs) for the WBC International bantamweight belt, while “Barby” Juárez will expose her WBC bantamweight world title against Japan’s Terumi Nuki (10-3, 7 KOs).
Nava, 38, was the first world champion in the WBC history and, in addition to being monarch at bantamweight, she also achieved it at super bantamweight.
Juarez, 38, was WBC world flyweight champion and currently holds the WBC bantamweight championship after dethroning Catherine Phiri before thousands of fans in the Zocalo of Mexico City on a historic night.
