Charlo-Castaño II quotes

Unified WBC, WBA and IBF champion Jermell Charlo (34-1-1, 18 KOs) and WBO champion Brian Castaño (17-0-2, 12 KOs) will meet in a rematch of their 2021 draw as they again seek to become the first ever undisputed 154-pound champion in the four-belt era on Saturday, May 14 live on SHOWTIME from Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. Charlo vs. Castaño II was previously announced to take place on March 19 but was rescheduled after Castaño suffered an arm injury in training.

Jermell Charlo: “I’m the unified champ and I’ve got business to finish. My total goal as a kid was to win all of the belts as a professional and I plan to make history yet again on May 14, in front of my west coast fans and all across the world. If you know me, you know how I don’t take opportunities lightly – Lions Only, the time is now! Make sure you tune in on May 14.”

Brian Castaño: “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to face Charlo again for all four titles. This is champion vs. champion, just like it should be. The first fight was a great war. The rematch will be no different, but this time I won’t leave it in the judges’ hands. This is my era, and I will prove it.”

  • Looking forward to this one. Don’t really have a preference as to who wins, but I suspect Charlo gets it done this time.

  • I firmly believe that Charlo, although pressed to the limit the first fight, dented Castano’s chin somewhat when he hurt him a couple of times; especially late in the fight. As good and tough as Castano is; I think he may get stopped late this time. Charlo carries power late and leaves no doubt in rematches. Looking forward to this one.

    • That’s more or less what I was thinking when I guessed Charlo would win this time. First thing that came to mind was Charlo rocking him late in the first fight. I’m thinking Charlo finds the range a little sooner this time, and either stops him or pulls away in the second half of the fight.

      • @ Noccowt I don’t think Charlo was hurt very much at all. He was nailed with a left hook while in the process of throwing his own left hook and was knocked off balance the way I saw it. Nothing more. Good shot for sure, but the round ended a few seconds later and Charlo looked fine and walked back to his corner on completely steady legs. Castano looked to be far more wobbly when he was hurt in the 10th round.

  • Well, I picked Castano in the first fight, and I thought Castano won.

In the second fight, I believe Castano will feel more comfortable and apply more pressure/head movement. During rounds 5-12, Castano’s pressure, sharp combination punches and confidence will keep Charlo on the defensive/in retreat.

Castano will win by the judges’ majority decision; but excited, screaming, roaring boxing fans will see Castano winning by UD (so will I).

  • I can’t wait for this one. Whoooo that first fight was a scorcher. I can’t even call this 2nd fight

  • Would love to see Charlo get annihilated. Knocked out cold, face first on the canvas. Would bring a smile to my face.

  • Charlo stopped improving a few years ago sadly. He fights too tight, has no flow and his feet are too wide and slow. Charlo looks a killer on the pads but as soon as an opponent slghtly alters the distance on him his feet are late to react No brainer stuff that his trainers should see but don’t. State of boxing today is a consequence of lame pad boys without a clue. Shame.

  • Not a fan of Charlo. He talks as though he fights once per month and has beaten the best many times over when in reality, he fights too seldom to be considered a true champion. I’d like to see Castano show him what it’s all about and prevail this time.

  • Used to be a big fan of both Charlo bros. Their outside the ring drama does not bode well for continued success though. You can’t burn the candle at both ends.

Tough fight to call. Castano outworked Charlo but Charlo hurt Castano not only in the 10th but also in the 2nd rd. If I remember correctly.

I thought it was razor close and a draw was acceptable.

I think Charlo catches Castano again and this time doesn’t let him off the hook.

  • First, I’m thrilled these two are fighting again for all the Belts. Hopefully, this trend continues!

As for the fight, I believe Jermell has all the advantages physically. Unfortunately, he’s fallen in love with his power and that allows other fighters more opportunities. Additionally, it often loses him rounds.

With that said, I’m sure his team has told him this same thing. I expect to see a more disciplined boxing performance from him…for about 3 rounds. After that, I think Castano will be able to lure him into an uglier fight. Uglier, but more entertaining!

Still, i think Jermell’s corner will get him to box enough to win at least 4 of the final 9 rounds cleanly. UD for Charlo, with more than a few critics saying Castano was the aggressor all night and deserved the nod.

  • Charlo by late round TKO!! While I don’t necessarily care for his personality, I do judge him as a champ! He has taken on ALL challengers and is the most dominant of all 54 pounders!!

    • i gotta agree with ya on this as far as Mel is the only one facing real fighters. I hope Castano wins but wither way I am fine.

  • This is going to be a great fight. IMO, it could go either way. I do have to had it to Mel though. he is taking on all fighters that come his way. That is refreshing these days. Most fighters with Belts(JERMAL) sure as hell wont take that risk. We’ve seen it here recently. Good luck to both fighters and Im still hoping that Castano wins!!

  • Castano was robbed in the first one hopefully he gets the job done in this one..
