Comebacking former world champion Beibut Shumenov (18-2, 12 KOs) returned from a two year layoff and one year retirement to regain his previously-held and currently vacant WBA “regular” cruiserweight title against #3 rated Hizni Altunkaya (30-2, 17 KOs) via ninth round TKO on Saturday afternoon at the Barys Arena in Astana, Kazakhstan. Shumenov dropped Altunkaya in round one with a left hand to the body, then thoroughly outboxed Altunkaya until round nine when he dropped Altunkaya again. Altunkaya’s corner stopped the bout after round nine.
