The rematch between former world champion mandatory challenger Byron “El Gallito” Rojas (24-3-3, 11 KOs) and WBA minimumweight champion Thammanoon Niyomtrong (a.k.a. CP Freshmart, 18-0, 7 KOs) is officially set for November 28th. The site of the event will be in Chonburi, Thailand. The two squared off two years ago where Freshmart edged Rojas by close decision. Rojas has reeled off 8 straight since he was dethroned by Freshmart. His manager WRAM Boxing (William Ramirez), who confirmed the fight, is confident Rojas can regain his crown.
“Byron is already in championship form as he keeps himself in shape year round. He already has had the experience of fighting Freshmart in Thailand and did extremely well. He will be much better this time having gone through the experience and knows what he has to do in order to be victorious. This time I am confident he will return a world champion once again,” said Ramirez.
Should Rojas defeat Freshmart, Ramirez could see himself with a trifecta of sorts for 2018. Ramirez also manages WBC flyweight champion Cristofer Rosales who won his world title earlier this year. His fighter Felix Alvarado is actually favored by many boxing experts to defeat Randy Petalcorin next month for the vacant IBF light flyweight title even though the fight is in the latter’s native Philippines. The feat for Ramirez would be unique as all three wins would be in the opponent’s backyards.
