WBC super lightweight world champion Jose Ramirez will not be defending his world title Saturday night in Fresno. Challenger Danny O’Connor was unable to cut the weight and was rushed to the hospital with severe dehydration.
According to Star Boxing, Danny woke this morning two pounds heavy and couldn’t trim the final two pounds. He collapsed leaving the sauna and EMTs were called. He was rushed to the hospital and admitted suspecting his kidneys may have shut down.
The ESPN-televised card will go on without hometown favorite Ramirez. The new main event is welterweight Egidijus Kavaliauskas vs. Juan Carlos Abreu.
