Alvarado Team shakes off venue switch

Power-punching IBF #1 Felix Alvarado (33-2, 29 KOs) of Managua, Nicaragua and IBF #3 Randy Petalcorin (29-2-1, 22 KOs) of General Santos City in the Philippines will fight for the vacant IBF light flyweight title. As previously announced the fight has been moved from Melbourne, Australia to Manila, Philippines on October 21st. Adding some spice to the event is that Manny Pacquiao´s MP Promotions will co-promote the event.

The venue switch does not concern Alvarez’ manager WRAM Boxing (William Ramirez) who is 100% confident that Alvarado has what takes to bring the world title back to Nicaragua.

“The one thing about Felix is you never have to worry about his focus. When it comes to boxing he is all in both mentally and physically. Felix is very mature and a true all around professional. He was already deep into training camp when I informed him of the new site location. He like I have no concerns. We are both happy that he is getting his opportunity to show he has what it takes to become a world champion October 21st,” said Ramirez

Ramirez’ confidence is understandable as his fighters are proving to be true road warriors. Earlier this year, his fighter Cristofer Rosales scored a huge upset of unbeaten Daigo Haiga by knockout as the visitor to claim the WBC flyweight title. Then just 4 months later Rosales took to the road again to defend his title against talented unbeaten Paddy Barnes. Rosales kayoed him in round 4 in front of a packed venue of Barnes supporters.

The heavy-handed Alvarado is favored by many boxing experts to defeat Petalcorin largeley based on Alvarado´s level of competetion. His only losses were to prime fighters Juan Carlos Reveco and Kazuto Ioka. Both were world title fights, very competitive decision losses, and yes, on the road.
