Lina Licona (1-0, 1KO) relentlessly assaulted Brittany Horton (0-2) landing about 75% of her punches on Horton who looked like she may have taken a couple boxing aerobics classes but hardly resembles a trained professional boxer. Horton went down from a barrage of punches late in the opening round but Licona seemed a little punched out in the second round allowing Horton to make it into the third round. Horton pushed her own punches throughout while Licona had plenty of mustard on her own shots attacking both the head and body with an equal lack of mercy. Finally, early in the third round, Licona cornered Horton in a corner and unleashed a barrage of punches that landed before the referee stepped in to put an end to the massacre. At 0:45 of the third round, Licona wins her debut by way of knockout in a scheduled four round light flyweight bout.
2016 Olympian, Karlos Balderas (5-0, 4KO), made short work of Alex Silva (3-8, 2KO), knocking him out at 2:25 of the first round. Balderas dropped Silva halfway into the first round and then landed a devastating body shot to the liver that had Silva rolling around on the canvas in excruciating pain as he was counted out. Karlos is the younger brother of Jose Balderas who fought and won in the preceding fight on the card.
Jose Balderas (3-0) was the unanimous decision winner over Luis Montellano (0-2-1) in a fight lacking in technical skills that was more tough man contest than boxing match. All three judges scored it 40-36 for Balderas in the four round super bantamweight bout.
Angel Alejandro (3-0, 1KO) punished Erick Rocha (0-2) for four rounds to cruise to a shutout unanimous decision victory in a super bantamweight contest. By way of either a lack of power by Alejandro or a solid chin by Rocha, there were no knockdowns but Alejandro landed plenty of power punches to dominate the fight. All three judges scored it 40-36 for Alejandro.
In an all action crowd pleasing junior lightweight six round bout, Jose Gomez (11-0, 4KO) had all he could handle from Ryan Lee Allen (4-2-1, 2KO) and settled for a split decision victory. The final round brought the crowd to its feet as the two combatants engaged in a slugfest. Judges scored it 59-55 and 58-56 for Gomez and a dissenting 59-55 for Allen.
Jerry Perez (7-0, 5KO) was able to play a game of target practice with Josh Ross (3-8-4) dropping him with the bout’s opening punch, a right cross, for an 8 count. Perez would drop Ross again at the end of the second round and once more in the third round. Ross would get up from the final knockdown but elected not to continue making Perez the winner by knockout at 2:02 of the third round of a scheduled four round junior lightweight contest.
In opening bout action from Staples Center in Los Angeles, Antonio Santa Cruz (7-4, 3KO) was a clear cut winner over Jordan Reyes (2-7, 2KO). The younger brother of Leo Santa Cruz was the unanimous decision winner by scores of 40-36, 39-37 and 40-36 in a four round super bantamweight contest.
