Ryan stops Sherrington in nine

Gunnedah-based middleweight southpaw Wade Ryan (16-7, 5 KOs) scored the best win of his career stopping formerly world rated Les Sherrington (37-12, 21 KOs) in a scheduled ten round bout at the Town Hall in Gunnedah, NSW on Saturday. Ryan captured the Orient and Pacific Boxing Federation title when the referee crowned him the winner in round nine. Ryan was coming off losses to former world rated Michael Zerafa and Tim Tszyu. The 36-year-old Sherrington had victories over two-time world title challenger Shannan Taylor and former world rated Nader Hamdan but suffered losses to WBC #12 Jayde Mitchell, former IBF middleweight champion Sam Soliman and WBO #9 Zac Dunn. The promoter was David Syphers, Spikes Boxing Promotions. Matchmaker was Chris Carman.
