Hamed: Dubois takes over heavyweight boxing

Ring legend Prince Naseem Hamed has confidently predicted that 22-year-old Daniel ‘Dynamite’ Dubois will “take over heavyweight boxing”. Speaking on the latest installment of Frank Warren’s Heavyweight Podcast, the Sheffield icon expressed his admiration for promoter Warren’s eye for talent and spoke of the qualities that he believes make Dubois a surefire superstar.

“Frank knows how to pick the best fighters,” he said, “and at the moment I think he’s got one in Daniel Dubois who I really think is going to light up the world.”

No stranger to a knockout himself, Naz added: “He has that crushing power. I love the way he fights… the way he punches to the body too.”

Despite his young age Dubois has already carved out an impressive 14-0 professional record, with 13 KOs to his name, and has a list of boxing luminaries queuing up to praise him.

Hamed’s voice joins those of George Foreman, David Haye, Frank Bruno and Larry Holmes, amongst others, who have recently spoken of the potential for greatness in Dubois’ future.

‘Dynamite’ is next scheduled to face domestic rival Joe Joyce in a mouthwatering all-British battle that many see as a stepping stone to world title contention.

Hall-of-Fame promoter Frank Warren clearly agrees and earlier this week declared Dubois to be the “best heavyweight prospect on Planet Earth” and sensationally backed him to be victorious in a potential shootout with Deontay Wilder.

Prince Naseem wasn’t drawn on that particular match-up but did issue an ominous warning to the heavyweight division as a whole.

“I am looking forward to watching Daniel Dubois’ career unfold. For me, I believe he takes over heavyweight boxing.”

  • Dubois vs Joyce is an intriguing matchup. Joyce may not have the speed to deal with the quicker Dubois but the matchup I would really like to see is Hamed in Coney Island on July 4 duking it out with Joey Chestnut. Looks like he’s been practicing.

  • Let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves in talking about Dubois taking over the heavyweight division. Way too early to tell anything by Dubois and like all things in boxing, outcomes change at a drop of a hat. I recall in the past Oscar was really promoting Victor Ortiz like he was the next thing to greatness. Unfortunately, that all changed one night on HBO to one opponent named Marcos Maidana. Ortiz was a good fighter and former WBC champion. However, not really sure he was full of greatness like delusional Oscar thought.

    • Agreed. The guy looks great on paper, but so did David Price. And Audley Harrison.

      • Price yes. Harrison, you have to be joking. Watch his earlier fights where he struggles to put down overweight security guards. Zero power

  • Probably getting ahead of ourselves re the Wilder fight. Warren is presuming Fury wins the rematch and I hope Fury doesn’t think it will be as easy as last time even if it turns out that way as complacency could be his biggest threat.
If Wilder gets a beatdown again I can see him retiring unless he can get another match with Fury or AJ. DD is too risky for little reward.
I hope he goes the whole way as he seems to be a very level headed nice guy

  • The last time I saw Hamed, he looked like HE was getting ready to take over the heavyweight boxing!

  • With Good promotion he could do like Hamed and cash in for sure. Don’t know if He’s REALLY the guy to speak on greatness tho.

To be great either you conquered all in front of you or after an L rose from the ashes to be king again.

Hamehead, my bad I mean Hamed, had a good thing goin, took an L and DIPPED WITH THE LOOT. Get the money and run.
