WBC interim light heavyweight champion David “El Monstro” Benavidez and WBA “regular” light heavyweight champion David Morell Jr. kicked off fight week events on Wednesday with a grand arrivals and media workout event before they meet in a battle of unbeaten stars this Saturday, February 1 headlining a PBC Pay-Per-View event on Prime Video taking place Saturday, Feb. 1 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
David Benavidez: “I told you all I was going to break David Morrell’s face and that’s exactly what I’m going to do on Saturday…there’s nothing left to say, David Morrell is gonna see what’s up. I don’t care what he has to say, I just hope he’s ready to fight.”
David Morrell Jr: “I promise that I’m here to knock him out…I have everything I need to win. This is my time and my moment. 2025 is my year.”
I was there today. Benavidez and Morrell both arrived and left at different times, and neither saw one another. Both fighters looked confident & ready for battle. I can’t wait!

Good fight and it’s about time we start a year off with a good scrap. I Morell can pop-shot early and stun Be avidez a few times, he will do much better down the stretch if he doesn’t take him out with a one-hitter. If Benavidez can keep Morell’s bombs at bay the first 6 rounds, he can tire him down the stretch with pressure and secure the victory. We haven’t seen Morell under pressure so it will be interesting to see how he reacts, especially at a higher weight.
Both fighters looked ordinary in their last fight, so hopefully one or both comes out ready to remove the memories of their last pedestrian performances.
Easy fight for DB. This Morrell guy is going to be exposed. Easy money.
