100-pound Fabiana Bytyqi is now the WBC world champion at atomweight, the lightest weight class for women. With a clear unanimous decision over Denise Castle, Bytyqi claimed the vacant green belt on Saturday in Usti nad Labem, Czech Republic.
Scores were 100-90, 99-91 and 100-90 as the 22-year-old Bytyqi made Czech boxing history. Her trainer Lukas Konecny once held an interim version of a world title, but Bytyqi becomes the first Czech boxer to become a full world champion.
“It’s incomprehensible, unbelievable,” said the overjoyed Bytyqi. “I knew from the very first round that I could beat my opponent. I was just really fine-tuned today and had the better boxing skills.”
